Marconi promoted to head coach
at Ball State
Alex
Marconi (left) has been promoted to head coach at Ball State
after serving as an assistant coach for the past five seasons.
Marconi replaces Greg Beals, who left Ball State
to become head coach at Ohio State.
While an assistant with the Cardinals, Marconi
worked primarily with the catchers and outfielders. He was the
first base coach and helped with the team’s base running and
bunting.
Before
his arrival at Ball State, Marconi spent the 2005 season as the
volunteer assistant at North Carolina, working with the hitters
and catchers and directing the summer camps.
Marconi played four years at Kent State and was
the First Team All-MAC catcher in 1999 and 2000. Beals was an
assistant coach for the Golden Flashes during that time. Marconi
earned his bachelor’s degree in general studies in 2000.
After being taken in the 27th round of the 2000
draft by the Colorado Rockies, Marconi spent four years in
professional baseball. He got as high as Triple-A with the
Durham Bulls in 2001.
Marconi is married to the former Amanda Lescher,
who played women’s soccer at Kent State, They have two children,
a son and a daughter.
