Henderson signs extension with
Kentucky
Gary
Henderson (right) has signed a new five-year contract with the
University of Kentucky.
Assistant coaches Brad Bohannon (recruiting
coordinator) and Brian Green (offensive coordinator, hitting
coach) also received new contracts.
Henderson was selected as SEC Coach of the Year
this past season after leading the Wildcats to 45 wins, a
program record. UK finished third in the SEC and was ranked No.
1 for three weeks. Kentucky had nine players selected in the
2012 MLB Draft, a school record and second most in the nation.
The Wildcats have eight players in the Cape Cod League this
summer, the most among NCAA Division I programs.
After five seasons as associate head coach,
pitching coach and recruiting coordinator from 2004-08,
Henderson has guided UK to a record of 129-99 (.565) over the
past four seasons as head coach. It represents the second-best
four-year coaching mark in program history.
The Wildcats were 45-18 overall and 18-12 in the
SEC in 2012, earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. UK
was the No. 2 seed in the Gary Regional and finished as
runner-up in the regional, going 2-2. Kentucky posted an
impressive home record of 29-5 at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
Kentucky Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart also
stated that a facility upgrade would be coming in the near
future for UK baseball.
