Weathers to retire from Long Beach State

Buckley to take over program

Long Beach State head coach Mike Weathers will retire at the end of the season.

Weathers has a record of 309-198 in nine seasons with the Dirtbags. He has led LBSU to a pair of Big West Conference titles and five second-place finishes. Weathers had taken the Dirtbags to six NCAA Regionals and two Super Regionals. His teams have won at least 40 games twice and at least 35 four other times. Weathers was twice named Big West Conference Coach of the Year (2003, 2008).

After two seasons as head coach at Utah (1980-81) and nine at Chapman (1984-92), Weathers went to LBSU as an assistant in 1993.

Associate head coach Troy Buckley will become head coach at the conclusion of the 2010 season. He returned to LBSU prior to this season after serving as coordinator of minor league pitching with the Pittsburgh Pirates for two years. Buckley was pitching coach for the Dirtbags from 2002-07.

Long Beach State is 21-23 overall and 7-8 in the Big West, tied for fourth in the conference standings.
