LSU climbs to No. 1 in CBI Composite Poll

Texas A&M up to No. 2, Vandy rises to third, TCU falls to fourth, Florida fifth

After putting together a 3-1 week, LSU has risen to the top spot in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

CBI uses five national rankings in its composite poll: Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, D1baseball.com, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and USA Today Coaches Poll. Three different schools sit atop these national polls.

The Tigers won at Southern before taking two of three at Arkansas to win that SEC series. LSU was first in four polls and second in the other.

Texas A&M also went 3-1 and moved up two places to second. The Aggies beat Prairie View A&M prior to winning two of three at Alabama in SEC action. Texas A&M was first in one poll, second in one poll and third in the other three.

Vanderbilt had a 3-1 week and rose two spots to third. The Commodores defeated Tennessee Tech before taking two of three at Auburn. Vandy was second in three polls and third in the other two.

TCU went 3-2 and fell three places to fourth. The Horned Frogs beat UT Pan American twice before dropping two of three at home to Oklahoma State. TCU was fourth in three polls and fifth in the other two.

Florida had a 2-2 week and dropped two spots to fifth. The Gators defeated Florida State before losing two of three at Ole Miss. UF was fourth in two polls, fifth in one poll and sixth in the other two.

Houston (No. 17) and Maryland (No. 19) returned to the poll this week, while Texas Tech and Oregon dropped out. No. 7Louisville rose six places, while Rice fell seven spots to No. 15.

The CBI Composite Poll contains five teams from the SEC, all in the Top Ten. There are four from the ACC, three from the Pac-12, two from the American, Big 10 and Big 12, and one from the Big West and Conference USA.

BA-Baseball America poll; CB-Collegiate Baseball poll; D1-D1baseball.com poll; NCBWA-National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll; US-USA Today Coaches poll; Composite-Sum of rankings; Last rank-Last week's composite ranking

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that five national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: Rice is No. 14 in one poll, unranked in another.
