Florida had a 4-1 week and dropped one spot to fourth. The Gators split two games with UCF before sweeping a three-game series from Maine. UF was first in one poll, second in one poll, third in one poll, fourth in one poll and fifth in the other.

Vanderbilt had a 2-2 week and fell three places to fifth. The Commodores defeated Evansville before going 1-2 at the Dodgertown Classic. Vandy defeated UCLA before falling to USC and TCU. The Commodores were fifth in three polls, sixth in one poll and seventh in the other.

USC (No. 10), Louisville (No. 17), Florida State (No. 18) and UC Santa Barbara (No. 20) entered the poll this week, while Miami (Fla.), Maryland, Houston and Oklahoma State dropped out. No. 6 Texas A&M climbed eight places, while Texas Tech tumbled nine spots to No. 16.

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that five national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: Florida State is No. 11 in one poll, No. 21 in another.
