Virginia barely remains No. 1 in CBI Composite Poll
TCU up to No. 2, LSU rises to third, Florida slips to fourth,
Vandy falls to fifth
After
going 2-1 to improve to 12-1 overall, Virginia narrowly maintains the top
spot in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite
Poll.
CBI uses five national rankings in its
composite poll: Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball,
D1baseball.com, National
Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and USA Today
Coaches Poll. Four different schools sit atop these national polls.
The Cavaliers won two of three from Pittsburgh to kick off ACC
play. UVa and TCU both accrued 11 points, with the Cavaliers taking the
tie-breaker. Virginia was first in two polls and third in the other three.
The Horned Frogs went 3-1 to rise two spots to second. TCU
topped Rice before heading west for the Dodgertown Classic. After a loss at
USC on Friday, the Frogs won at UCLA on Saturday and beat Vanderbilt on
Sunday. TCU was first in one poll, second in three polls and fourth in the
other.
LSU put together a 5-0 week to jump two places to third. The
Tigers won at home over Stephen F. Austin and Grambling State before heading
to the Houston College Classic and defeating Houston, Baylor and Nebraska. LSU
was first on one poll, second in one poll, third in one poll and fourth in the
other two.
Florida had a 4-1 week and dropped one spot to fourth. The
Gators split two games with UCF before sweeping a three-game series from
Maine. UF was first in one poll, second in one poll, third in one poll, fourth in one poll and fifth in the other.
Vanderbilt had a 2-2 week and fell three places to fifth. The
Commodores defeated Evansville before going 1-2 at the Dodgertown Classic.
Vandy defeated UCLA before falling to USC and TCU. The Commodores were fifth
in three polls, sixth in one poll and seventh in the other.
USC (No. 10), Louisville (No. 17), Florida State (No. 18) and
UC Santa Barbara (No. 20) entered the poll this week, while Miami (Fla.),
Maryland, Houston and Oklahoma State dropped
out. No. 6 Texas A&M climbed eight places, while Texas Tech tumbled nine spots
to No. 16.
The CBI Composite Poll contains six teams from the SEC,
including five of the top eight. There
are four from the ACC and Pac-12, three from Big 12, and one
from the American, Big West and Conference USA.
