Virginia moves to the top spot in CBI Composite Poll

Vanderbilt falls to second, Florida rises to third, TCU drops to fourth

After putting together a 4-0 week to improve to 7-0, Virginia has climbed to No. 1 in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

CBI uses five national rankings in its composite poll: Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, D1baseball.com, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and USA Today Coaches Poll. The USA Today poll was not updated this week, so just four rankings are used for this week.

The Cavaliers got one win against La Salle and three against Marist, including one in 18 innings. Virginia was first in one poll, second in one poll, third in one poll and fourth in the other.

Vanderbilt went 2-1 against Indiana State and fell one spot to second. The Commodores were first in two polls, fourth in one poll and fifth in the other.

Florida had a 3-1 week and rose one place to third. The Gators defeated USF before taking two of three from No. 10 Miami. UF was second in one poll, third in one poll, fifth in one poll and sixth in the other.

TCU went 3-1 and slid one spot to fourth. The Horned Frogs beat UT Arlington before winning two of three at No. 16 Arizona State. TCU was first in one poll, second in one poll and seventh in the other two.

LSU put together a 3-1 week and remained in fifth. The Tigers rebounded from a loss to Nichols to take three from Boston College. LSU was second in one poll, third in one poll, fourth in one poll and eighth in the other.

Texas A&M moved into the poll at No. 14, while Louisville dropped out. No. 12 UCF climbed eight places and No. 8 Mississippi State rose seven spots. Texas fell six spots to No. 15.

The CBI Composite Poll contains six teams from the SEC. There are four from the Big 12, three from the ACC and the Pac-12, two from Conference USA, and one from the American and Big Ten.

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that five national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: South Carolina is No. 5 in one poll, No. 17 in another.
