Vanderbilt Remains on Top of CBI Composite Poll

Virginia sits in second, TCU is third, Florida in fourth, LSU stands fifth

After taking two of three from Santa Clara, Vanderbilt stays at No. 1 in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

CBI uses five national rankings in its composite poll: Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, D1baseball.com, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and USA Today Coaches Poll. The USA Today poll will not completed this week, so just four rankings are used for this week.

The Commodores were the unanimous choice in the preseason poll. Vandy was first in two polls, second in one poll and third in the other.

Virginia swept a three-game set at East Carolina and remained in second place. The Cavaliers were first in one poll, third in two polls and fourth in the other.

TCU took three from Southern Illinois and held onto third. The Horned Frogs were first in one poll, second in one poll, seventh in one poll and eighth in the other.

Florida swept a three-game series from Rhode Island and rose one spot to fourth. The Gators were second in one poll, fifth in two polls and sixth in the other.

LSU took three from Kansas and slipped one place to fifth. The Tigers were second in one poll, fourth in two polls and ninth in the other.

Mississippi State moved into the poll at No. 19, while Cal State Fullerton dropped out. No. 8 Texas Tech, No. 10 Miami (Fla.) and No. 16 Arizona State each rose three spots. Oklahoma State fell five spots to No. 13.

The CBI Composite Poll contains five teams from the ACC and SEC. There are four from the Big 12, three from the Pac-12, two from Conference USA, and one from the Big Ten.

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that five national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: South Carolina is No. 5 in one poll, No. 20 in another.
