After remaining undefeated with a 5-0 week at home, South Carolina vaulted two spot to No. 1 in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

The Gamecocks began the week with a pair of victories over Stetson. South Carolina swept a three-game series from Brown over the weekend with three shutouts. The Gamecocks were first in four polls and third in the other.

Florida State went 4-1 and dropped one spot to second. The Seminoles won twice at USF before taking two of three in their ACC opening series against Maryland. FSU is second in all five polls.

Virginia had a 2-1 week and fell to third. The Cavaliers were postponed against George Washington and Old Dominion before taking two of three at Duke to kick off ACC play. Virginia was first in one poll, third in two polls and fifth in the other.

Vanderbilt had a 5-0 week to climb one spot to fourth. The Commodores defeated Tennessee Tech, won at Middle Tennessee and swept a three-game set from Winthrop. Vanderbilt was third in one poll, fourth in two polls, fifth in one poll and seventh in the other.

Oregon State went 5-0 with four shutouts and rose one place to fifth. The Beavers blanked Portland and swept a four-game set from Northern Illinois. OSU was fourth in three polls, fifth in one poll and seventh in the other.

Miami returned to the poll at No. 17, while Tennessee debuted at No. 19 and Kentucky came in at No. 20. Those who dropped out include Oklahoma State, Mississippi State and UCLA.

The CBI Composite Poll contains six teams from both the ACC and SEC. There are two from the Big West and Pac-12, and single entries from the American, Big 12, Conference USA and Sun Belt.

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that five national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: Rice is No. 15 in two polls, No. 29 in another.
