North Carolina stays at No. 1 in CBI Composite Poll

Vanderbilt remains second, Oregon State climbs to third, LSU falls to fourth

 

Despite suffering its first loss of the season, North Carolina remains the unanimous No. 1 in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

 

The Tar Heels went 4-1 at home for the week. UNC beat Gardner-Webb on Tuesday and High Point on Wednesday. The Tar Heels lost to Miami (Fla.) on Friday before defeating the Hurricanes on Saturday and Sunday to take the ACC series. UNC is first in all five polls.

 

Vanderbilt had a 4-0 week to stay in second, defeating Buffalo on Wednesday before sweeping a three-game SEC set at Auburn. The Commodores are second in four polls and fourth in the other.

 

Oregon State went 4-1 and rose one spot to third. The Beavers split a pair of midweek contests with San Francisco before sweeping a three-game Pac-12 series at Arizona. OSU has a second, a third, two fourths and a fifth.

 

LSU had a 3-1 week and dropped one place to fourth. The Tigers beat Nicholls at home on Wednesday before taking two of three in SEC play at No. 12 Mississippi State. LSU is third in four polls and seventh in the other.

 

South Carolina went 4-1 to remain at No. 5. The Gamecocks defeated USC Upstate on Tuesday and Davidson on Wednesday before winning two of three at SEC-newcomer Missouri.

 

Virginia was the big riser, jumping four spots to No. 13 after a 3-1 week. Arizona State went 2-2 and dropped four places to No. 20.

 

Oklahoma returns to the poll at No. 17. Arkansas dropped out of the poll.

 

The CBI Composite Poll contains six teams from the SEC, including four of the top six. There are five from the ACC and Pac-12, two from the Big East and a single entry from the Big West and Big 12.
