Virginia stays No. 1 in tight CBI
Composite Poll
South Carolina, Vanderbilt,
Florida hold spots at second, third, fourth
After
taking two of three contests in an ACC series at Boston College this past
weekend, Virginia remains No. 1 in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.
The Cavaliers won 17-0 on Friday in Chestnut Hill before the
Eagles posted a 5-4 win on Saturday in 11 innings. Virginia won the series
with a 4-0 decision on Sunday. The Cavaliers are first in the Baseball
America and USA Today/ESPN polls, second in one and third in the
other.
South Carolina went 4-0 to stay at No. 2, but move closer to
the top spot. The
Gamecocks defeated Liberty on Tuesday before sweeping an SEC series against
Auburn. South Carolina is first in the Collegiate Baseball poll, second in two polls and
third in the other.
Vanderbilt had another 3-0 week to remain third. The Commodores swept
a three-game SEC set at home against in-state rival Tennessee. Vanderbilt is
first in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll, second in
one poll,
third in one and fourth in the other.
Florida went 3-0 to stay fourth. The Gators took three SEC
contests at home from Ole Miss. Florida is fourth in two polls and fifth in the other two.
Oregon State beat Texas on a tie-breaker to sit at No. 5. The
Beavers won at Portland before taking two of three Pac-10 contests at UCLA.
OSU is third in one poll, fourth in one poll, seventh in one poll and eighth
in the other.
Two teams return to this week's poll. Clemson comes in at
No. 17 and Oklahoma State stands at No. 19.
There are six ACC teams in this week's poll and four from the
Big 12. There are three teams from the SEC, all in the top four, and three
from the Pac-10. There are single entries
from the Big West, Conference USA, Mountain West and WAC.
