Virginia climbs to No. 1 in CBI
Composite Poll
South Carolina rises to second, Vanderbilt falls to third,
Texas up to fourth
After
its 5-0 week, including a three-game ACC sweep of Duke, Virginia rose to No. 1 in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.
The Cavaliers defeated Georgetown on Tuesday and Coastal
Carolina on Wednesday before taking three from the Blue Devils over the
weekend. Virginia is first in
all four national polls.
South Carolina went 2-2 but climbed one spot to No. 2. The
Gamecocks lost at The Citadel on Tuesday before taking two of three from
former top-ranked Vanderbilt. South Carolina is second in all four polls.
Vanderbilt dropped two places to No. 3. The Commodores won at
Middle Tennessee on Tuesday before their series loss at South Carolina.
Vanderbilt is third in three polls and fourth in the other.
Texas bumped up one spot to fourth. The Longhorns defeated
Dallas Baptist on Tuesday before taking two of three from Texas Tech. Texas is
fourth in three polls and seventh in the other.
Florida slid one place to fifth. The Gators lost at Florida
State on Tuesday before winning two of three at Georgia. Florida is fifth in
three polls and sixth in the other.
There are two new teams in this week's poll. Oklahoma State
enters at No. 18, while UC Irvine returns to the rankings at No. 20.
This week's poll is the most-balanced of the season. There are
four teams from the ACC, Big 12, Pac-10
and SEC. There are two Big West squads and single entries
from the Mountain West and WAC.
