Vanderbilt maintains top spot in CBI
Composite Poll
Virginia stays second, South Carolina sits third, Florida
remains fourth
After
its SEC sweep of West-leading Alabama, Vanderbilt remains in first place in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.
The Commodores went 4-0 for the second straight week, beating
Middle Tennessee on
Tuesday taking three from the Crimson Tide. As it was a week ago, Vanderbilt is first in
three of the national polls and second in the other.
Virginia went 3-1 to keep its hold on second. The Cavaliers
blanked Radford on Tuesday before taking two of three at then-No. 12 Georgia
Tech. Virginia is first in the
Collegiate Baseball poll and second in the
other three.
South Carolina stays at No. 3 after its second consecutive 4-0 week. The
Gamecocks defeated USC Upstate on Tuesday before a three-game SEC sweep at
Tennessee. South Carolina is third in all four polls.
Florida experienced a rare 2-2 week, but was able to stay in
fourth. The Gators lost to UCF on Tuesday and dropped the SEC series opener at
Mississippi State on Friday before rebounding to take the final two against
the Bulldogs. Florida is
fourth in three polls and fifth in the other.
Texas moves up two spots to No. 5. The Longhorns won at Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday before taking two of three from Baylor.
Two teams return to the poll this week. Arkansas checks in at
No. 17, while Arizona sits at No. 19.
There are six teams from the Pac-10 and four from both the ACC
and SEC. There are three Big 12 squads and single entries
from the Big West, Mountain West and WAC.

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that
four national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make
it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: Arkansas is No.
13 in one poll, No. 25 in another.
