Vanderbilt sits alone in first in CBI
Composite Poll
Virginia moves to second, South Carolina sits third, Florida
stays fourth
After
sharing the top spot with Virginia a week ago, Vanderbilt stands alone in
first in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.
The Commodores went 4-0 this past week, beating UT-Martin on
Tuesday before sweeping a three-game SEC series at Auburn over the weekend. Vanderbilt is first in
three of the national polls and second in the other.
Virginia also went 4-0, but fell out of a first-place tie into
second. The Cavaliers watched Will Roberts throw a perfect game against George
Washington on Tuesday prior to their three-game ACC sweep at Virginia Tech. Virginia is first in the
Collegiate Baseball poll and second in the
other three.
South Carolina stays at No. 3 after a 4-0 week. The
Gamecocks defeated The Citadel on Wednesday before a three-game SEC sweep of
Kentucky. South Carolina is third in all four polls.
Florida remained fourth after its 3-1 week. The Gators
rebounded from a loss on Tuesday to No. 8 Florida State to sweep a three-game
SEC set against Tennessee. Florida is
fourth in all four polls.
Arizona State rose one spot to No. 5. The Sun Devils swept a
three-game Pac-10 series from Oregon. ASU is fifth in three polls and sixth in
the other.
There are three new teams in this week's poll. Southern Miss
makes its first appearance of the season at No. 17. UCLA returns to the poll
at No. 19, while Oregon State comes in at No. 20.
There are five teams from the Pac-10 and four from both the ACC
and SEC. There are three Big 12 squads and single entries
from the Big West, Conference USA, Mountain West and WAC.

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that
four national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make
it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: Southern Miss is No.
14 in one poll, No. 23 in another.
