Vanderbilt, Virginia tied for first in CBI
Composite Poll
South Carolina sits third, Florida falls to fourth, Texas A&M
rises to fifth
After
Florida held the top spot for five weeks, Vanderbilt and Virginia are tied for
first in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.
The Commodores went 3-1 this past week, defeating Tennessee
Tech on Tuesday before taking two of three SEC contests at No. 18 Arkansas.
Vanderbilt is first in the Baseball America and NCBWA polls and second
in the other two.
The Cavaliers went 5-0 at home, winning twice against Towson
and sweeping a three-game ACC set from Maryland. Virginia is first in the
Collegiate Baseball and USA Today/ESPN polls and second in the
other two.
South Carolina rose two spots to third after a 4-1 week. The
Gamecocks defeated College of Charleston and Rhode Island before taking two of
three at then-No. 1 Florida. South Carolina is third in three polls and fourth
in the other.
Florida fell three places to No. 4. The Gators won twice
against Winthrop before dropping two of three to South Carolina. Florida is
third in one poll and fourth in the other three.
Texas A&M jumped three spots to fifth. The Aggies stopped
Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday before sweeping a Big 12 series from Kansas.
Texas A&M is fifth in two polls and sixth in the other two.
Fresno State used a 4-0 week to make the largest move, climbing
six places to No. 12.
California returned to the poll at No. 17.
There are five teams from the SEC, including three of the top four. There are also five from the ACC,
including four of the top 11. There are four Pac-10 teams, three Big 12 squads, and single entries
from the Big West, Mountain West and WAC.
