Florida takes over top spot in CBI Composite Poll
UCLA remains second, Vanderbilt climbs to third, TCU falls to
fourth
With
its three-game home sweep of USF, Florida has risen to the top of the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.
The ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll will not have its first
regular-season ranking until Feb. 28, so this week's CBI Composite Poll
includes just the other three national polls.
The Gators, who were No. 3 in the preseason CBI Composite Poll,
defeated the Bulls 7-2 on Friday, 4-1 on Saturday and 5-0 on Sunday. Florida was
first in two polls and second in the other.
UCLA stayed in the No. 2 spot. The Bruins swept a three-game
home set against San Francisco. UCLA is first in the NCBWA poll and second in
the other two.
Vanderbilt won four times on the West Coast to climb one place
to third. The Commodores won at San Diego State and were victorious at San
Diego three times.
Preseason No. 1 TCU dropped three spots to No. 4. The Horned
Frogs defeated Kansas on Friday and Saturday, but fell to the Jayhawks in 14
innings on Sunday.
Oklahoma stayed at No. 5 following its four-game sweep of
William and Mary.
There are two new teams in this week's poll. Louisville went
3-0 in the Big East/Big Ten Challenge to debut at No. 17. North Carolina
posted wins over Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Missouri and USC enter at No.
19.
There are four teams each from the ACC, Pac-10
and SEC. There are three Big 12 teams, two from the Big East and single entries
from the Big West, Conference USA and Mountain West.

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that
four national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make
it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: Texas A&M is No.
8 in one poll, No. 21 in another.
