South Carolina takes top spot in final CBI Composite Poll

UCLA sits second, TCU takes third, Oklahoma is fourth, Clemson is fifth

 

After winning its first national championship in baseball, South Carolina was the unanimous No. 1 in the final CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

 

The Gamecocks, under head coach Ray Tanner (right), swept through their regional and super regional before losing their first game at the College World Series. South Carolina battled back to win four straight to reach the championship series, then took care of UCLA in two games to claim the title.

 

The Bruins finished second in each of the four national polls to place No. 2 in the CBI Composite Poll.

 

TCU reached the College World Series for the first time and was third in all four polls to sit No. 3 in the CBI Composite Poll.

 

Oklahoma, the team which defeated South Carolina in their first meeting in Omaha, was fifth in all four polls and finished No. 4 in the CBI Composite Poll.

 

Clemson finished tied for third at the College World Series. The Tigers were fourth in three of the national polls and 10th in the Baseball America poll to sit at No. 5 in the CBI Composite Poll.

 

Rounding out the Top 10 in the CBI Composite Poll were Florida State, Arizona State, Florida, Texas and Virginia. The Sun Devils and the Cavaliers were tied for first in the CBI Composite Poll at the end of the regular season.

 

Alabama climbed back into the poll at No. 16 and Texas A&M returned at No. 20. Rice and Connecticut both fell out of the poll.
