Arizona State remains No. 1 in CBI Composite Poll

UCLA climbs to second, Virginia jumps to third, Texas rises to fourth

After a weekend full of upsets, the Arizona State Sun Devils stay at No. 1 in the latest CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

Arizona State is first in two polls (Collegiate Baseball and USA Today/ESPN), second in NCBWA and third in Baseball America. The Sun Devils went 3-2 this past week, taking two from San Diego before dropping two of three at Washington State.

UCLA moved up one spot to No. 2. The Bruins are first in the Baseball America poll, second in two others and fourth in one. UCLA went 2-2, falling at home to Cal State Fullerton before winning two of three at No. 16 Oregon State.

Virginia rose two places to third. The Cavaliers are first in the NCBWA poll, and have a second, third and fourth-place spot in the other polls. Virginia beat James Madison and Radford before taking two of three from No. 2 Georgia Tech.

Texas climbed two spots to No. 4. The Longhorns were one of the few ranked teams to go undefeated this past week. Texas beat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi twice before sweeping a three-game set with Kansas.

Georgia Tech dropped from second to fifth. The Yellow Jackets topped Kennesaw State before losing two of three at Virginia.

Coastal Carolina and Oklahoma both rose three places, while Louisville fell six spots.

Western Kentucky and Cal State Fullerton enter this week's poll, while UC Irvine and Vanderbilt both fell out.

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that four national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: South Carolina is No. 5 in one poll, No. 13 in two others.
