Arizona State moves to No. 1 in the CBI Composite
Poll
Virginia falls to second, Georgia Tech stays in third, LSU
still fourth
By sitting
on top of three of the national polls the Arizona State Sun Devils are the new No. 1 in the latest CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.
Arizona State, under head coach Tim Esmay (left), is first in the Collegiate Baseball,
NCBWA and USA Today/ESPN polls and second in the
Baseball America . The Sun Devils opened Pac-10 play with a three-game
sweep of California to raise their record to 23-0, the best start in school
history.
Virginia slipped from the top spot to
No. 2. The Cavaliers are first in the Baseball America
poll, second in the NCBWA poll and third in the other two polls. Virginia beat
Marshall on Tuesday before taking two of three from No. 8 Clemson.
Georgia Tech remains in
third. The Yellow Jackets are second in one poll, third in another and fifth
in one. Tech beat Mercer twice before sweeping a three-game ACC set at North
Carolina.
LSU holds at No. 4. The Tigers topped Louisiana-Lafayette
before winning three SEC contests at Tennessee.
UCLA climbs two spots to No. 5. The
Bruins won at UC Santa Barbara and swept a three-game series from Cal Poly.
UCLA is 20-0, its best start and the longest winning streak in school history.
Louisville rose three places to No. 8,
while Florida fell four spots to No. 9.
Vanderbilt and Arizona entered this
week's poll, while Alabama and UC Irvine fell out.
