Virginia climbs to No. 1 in the CBI Composite Poll

Arizona State moves up to second, Georgia Tech rises to third, Texas is fourth

 

By sitting on top of two of the national polls, the Virginia Cavaliers make their first appearance at No. 1 in the latest CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.

 

After its series victory at Florida State, Virginia is first in the Baseball America and NCBWA polls, and second in the Collegiate Baseball and USA Today/ESPN polls. The Cavaliers, led by head coach Brian O'Connor (pictured) won at William and Mary before taking two of three from the Seminoles in their opening ACC series in Tallahassee.

 

Arizona State climbed two spots to second. The Sun Devils are first in the Collegiate Baseball and USA Today/ESPN polls, second in the NCBWA, but 10th in the Baseball America poll. ASU defeated Grand Canyon on Tuesday before sweeping a three-game series from Auburn.

 

Georgia Tech also rose two places to third. The Yellow Jackets are third in two polls and fourth in the other two. Tech swept a three-game ACC set from Wake Forest.

 

Texas moves up two rungs to fourth. The Longhorns defeated Texas State on Tuesday and took four from Iowa over the weekend.

 

After losing two of three this past weekend at home to Kansas, LSU fell from No. 1 to No. 5. Florida State dropped from second to sixth after its series loss to Virginia.

 

Oklahoma used a 4-1 week to rise four spots to No. 16. Vanderbilt enters the poll at No. 17.

 

North Carolina dropped from No. 13 to No. 18 after its ACC series loss at Duke. East Carolina fell out of the poll after its 1-3 West Coast trip.
