LSU claims top spot in CBI Composite Preseason Poll
North Carolina sits in second, Rice is
third, Texas A&M is fourth
By sitting in the Top
2 in all four national polls, including the top spot in two of the rankings,
the LSU Tigers are No. 1
in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Preseason Poll.
The Tigers
were 49-19-1 a season ago, reaching the College World Series. LSU was first in
the Collegiate Baseball poll and USA Today/ESPN poll. The
Tigers, led by sophomore shortstop D.J. LeMahieu (pictured right) were
second in both the Baseball America and the National
Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) polls.
North Carolina (54-14) earned the top
spot in the NCBWA poll to claim second in the CBI Composite Poll. The Tar
Heels were second in both the Collegiate Baseball and USA Today/ESPN
polls. UNC was third in the Baseball America poll.
Rice (47-15) was third in three polls
and came in third in the CBI Composite Poll. Texas A&M (46-19) was first in
the Baseball America poll and fourth in the CBI Composite Poll.
National runner-up Georgia (45-25-1)
comes in fifth in the CBI Composite Poll, followed by Texas (39-22), Arizona
State (49-13), Stanford (41-24-2), Cal State Fullerton (41-22) and Mississippi
(39-26).
Defending national champion Fresno State
(47-31) is No. 20 in the CBI Composite Poll. The Bulldogs were not ranked in
the Baseball America poll.
There are six teams from the Big 12 and
the Pac-10 in the
CBI Composite Poll, and five from the ACC and SEC. There are three from
Conference USA and two from the Big West and West Coast Conference. There are single entries from
the Big East, Big South, Big Ten, Missouri Valley, Mountain West and WAC.
