CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll

Miami unanimous No. 1 in CBI Composite Poll

Florida State stays at No. 2; North Carolina climbs one spot to No. 3

By sitting on top of all four national polls, Miami (Fla.) remains No. 1 in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll for the third consecutive week.

The Hurricanes went 3-1 this past week to raise their record to 33-4. Miami rallied from a 10-3 deficit and scored three in the ninth for a non-conference win at Florida Atlantic. The Hurricanes then took two of three ACC contests at second-ranked Florida State.

The ACC holds the top three spots in all four national polls, as well as the top three places in the CBI Poll. Florida State (34-5) defeated Florida and North Florida before dropping two of three to Miami and retains the second spot. North Carolina (34-7) enjoyed a 5-0 week with wins over UNC Greensboro and Charlotte and a three-game ACC sweep of Boston College to rise one spot to No. 3. The Tar Heels host the Seminoles this weekend in a three-game set at Cary, N.C.

Arizona State (31-6) lost two of three Pac-10 contests to defending national champion Oregon State and fell to No. 4. Rice (31-10) won at Texas A&M and swept a three-game Conference USA series from East Carolina to climb two spots to No. 5.

Oklahoma State (27-11) rebounded from a loss to Texas-Arlington to defeat Mid-America Christian and sweep a three-game Big 12 series at Texas. The Cowboys climbed three places to No. 16.

Coastal Carolina (33-7), Virginia (31-11) and Kentucky (30-9) reappear in this week's poll.

Why a composite poll? CBI felt that four national polls was enough. Plus, each week you find discrepancies that make it tough to gauge where a team really is. This week's example: Stanford is No. 5 in one poll, No. 22 in another.
