1 Vanderbilt
2 Indiana State
3 McNeese
4 Ohio State
Let’s state the obvious: Vanderbilt is loaded. Austin Martin is hitting .414 and finds gaps. JJ Bleday has hit .357 with 26 homers and 67 RBI. And the Commodores hit .319 as a team, fourth in the country and tops among tourney teams. Oh, they also have a plethora of pitchers who have combined for 628 Ks in 525.2 innings and allowed hitters a .229 average. Jarrod Watkins and (.312/2/32) and Clay Dungan (.298/9/34) lead a gritty Indiana State offense that doesn’t strike out a ton and puts the ball in play. And the Sycamores have several top arms to boot, led by Triston Polley (7-1, 2.53) and Collin Liberatore (10-1, 2.78). McNeese is in the field for the first time since 2003, getting pop from Clayton Rasbeary (.311/10/48) and Nate Fisbeck (.304/12/48). Ohio State rolled in the Big Ten tourney and will look to Dominic Canzone (.350/15/42) and Brady Cherry (.308/15/49) to carry the offense.
Sean – There are some good teams in this Regional. It’s just that it would be a shock if Vanderbilt doesn’t move on.
Phil: JJ Bleday, Drake Fellows and Vandy dominate Indiana State, McNeese and Ohio State to host a Super Regional.
