Clemson’s late-season surge continues. The Tigers (32-26) got eight fantastic innings from Zack Erwin, who struck out 11 and allowed one earned run, in a win over Louisville. Reed Rohlman and Westin Wilson each had two RBI as Clemson touched up Kyle Funkhouser for seven runs (five earned) in five innings. Tyler Krieger had two hits, two runs and an RBI for the Tigers, who are 1-1 in pool play. Nick Solak went 3 for 4 for the Cardinals (43-15).

 

Brian Brown and Curt Britt combined to allow three hits and strike out 14 as NC State beat Notre Dame for its 11th win in 13 games. Brown struck out 10 in six scoreless innings and got support from Andrew Knizner (2 for 4, R, RBI) and Ryne Willard (2 for 4, RBI). The Wolfpack improved to 32-20, while the Irish fell to 35-20.

Andrew Lantrip struck out 10 in seven innings as Houston defeated USF. Lantrip (8-3) gave up five hits, three walks and three runs. Jacob Campbell, Corey Julks and Ashford Fulmer each drove in two for the Cougars (41-17). Kyle Teaf went 2 for 3 with one RBI for the Bulls (33-23-1).

 

Vinny Siena had a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 11th as UConn eliminated UCF. Siena went 3 for 4 with two walks and two RBI for the Huskies (34-24). Dylan Moore homered and drove in two for the Knights (31-27).

Luke Dunlap homered twice and drove in five as UNCW thumped Northeastern. Dunlap had a two-run homer in the second and a three-run dinger in the seventh for the Seahawks (37-16). Casey Golden had three hits and three RBI for UNCW. Michael Foster went 3 for 5 with two runs and two RBI for the Huskies (25-29).

 

Rob Fonseca had a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth as Northeastern edged William & Mary. Gabe Levanti went 3 for 4 with two doubles and a run for the Huskies. Aaron Civale (7-2, 3.2 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 3 K) earned the victory. Matthew Tilley had two hits and one RBI for the Tribe.

 

Adam Davis tossed a five-hitter as Delaware eliminated W&M. Davis (6-3) allowed one unearned run with two walks and six strikeouts. Greg Olenski had two hits and an RBI for the Blue Hens (24-23). Josh Smith went 1 for 3 with a walk and an RBI for the Tribe (22-30).

Evan Gruener ripped a three-run homer in the top of the ninth as Bradley rallied to beat Indiana State in a winners’ bracket game. The Braves now await the winner of Dallas Baptist and Indiana State on their side of the bracket. The Sycamores put two runners on in the ninth, but Matt Dennis got a strikeout to end the game.

 

Cory Taylor and relievers Brandon Koch and Drew Smith combined on a four-hit shutout as Dallas Baptist eliminated Evansville. Leading 1-0 in the seventh, David Martinelli tripled in Chane Lynch then scored on Drew Turbin’s sacrifice fly for the Patriots (43-12). Ryan Billo allowed three runs on four hits for the Aces (29-24).

 

Bryce Sablotny allowed one run in 5.1 innings, and Chase Slone and Tyler Rolland each drove in two as Southern Illinois eliminated Illinois State. The Salukis (12-45) meet the loser of Missouri State/Wichita State, while the Redbirds finish their season 27-27.

Daniel Zamora tossed eight scoreless innings as Stony Brook blanked Hartford. Zamora (7-2) scattered six hits with four walks and eight strikeouts. Cameron Stone fanned two in a 1-2-3 ninth to register his fifth save. Andruw Gazzola had two hits and one RBI for the Seawolves (32-14-1). Nick Campana and Ben Bengtson both had two hits for the Hawks (22-30).

 

Anthony Gatto went 3 for 3 with two runs as UMBC downed Maine. Connor Hax and Andrew Casali both knocked in a pair for the Retrievers (33-18). Conrad Wozniak (4-1, 7 IP, 6 H, R, BB, 4 K) earned the win. Kevin Stypuilkowski had two hits and two RBI for the Black Bears (24-27).

 

Atlantic 10 (Barcroft Park, Arlington, Va.)

Jordan Powell delivered a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth as Rhode Island edged Richmond. Brad Applin (3-1, 0.2 IP, H) picked up the win for the Rams (25-23-1) in relief of Steve Moyers (8.1 IP, 5 H, R, 3 BB, 2 K). Matt Dacey went 2 for 4 with a run for the Spiders (28-24).

 

Darian Carpenter was a triple short of the cycle and drove in five as VCU thumped Saint Louis. The Rams (35-22) scored three in the first and blew the game open with seven in the third. Heath Dwyer (9-2, 7.2 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 5 BB, 5 K) earned the victory. Colton Frabasilio went 1 for 3 and scored twice for the Billikens (35-20).

Connor Barron’s single scored Michael Sterling, and after it got under an outfielder’s glove, also scored Nick Dawson as Southern Miss scored twice in the 12th inning to eliminate Old Dominion. Jamie McMahon allowed five hits and struck out five in 8.2 scoreless innings for the Golden Eagles (36-17-1). Adam Bainbridge tossed 8.1 scoreless innings for the Monarchs (27-29).

 

In a game suspended early Thursday morning, James Naile allowed two hits and struck out seven in 6.2 scoreless innings as UAB knocked off Southern Miss. Chase Davis went 5 for 5 with two runs and an RBI, and Griffin Gum added two hits and a run for the Blazers (31-24).

 

For just the second time in 20 years of the C-USA tourney, the top seed was eliminated after two games as Middle Tennessee knocked off Rice behind six solid innings from Nate Hoffmann. Brad Jarreau drove in two, and Jared Allen went 2 for 5 with two doubles, a run and an RBI for the Blue Raiders (31-26). Ford Stainback went 3 for 4 with an RBI for the Owls (35-20).

Jake Madsen, Cody Gaertner and Ty Black each homered in the 11th inning as Ohio won a winners’ bracket thriller against Western Michigan. Logan Cozart turned in six sterling innings of relief to improve to 7-1, allowing two hits and no runs. Black finished 2 for 3 with two RBI for the Bobcats (34-19). Keegan Akin tossed 6.2 innings with five hits, one earned run and six strikeouts for the Broncos (22-29).

 

Deion Tansel went 4 for 4 with a run and two RBI, and John Martillotta added two hits, a run and two RBI as Toledo eliminated Central Michigan. Matt Hansen added two hits and two runs for the Rockets (25-32), who got 5.1 solid innings from Steven Calhoun. CMU finishes at 35-22.

 

Matt Smith drove in two and Brandon Howard scored twice as Bowling Green eliminated Kent State. Zac Carey allowed two runs on 10 hits in 7.1 innings with both runs coming in the eighth inning for the Falcons (24-28). Sawyer Polen had three hits and two RBI, and Zarley Zalewski added three hits and a run for the Golden Flashes (31-22).

 

Northeast (Dodd Stadium, Norwich, Conn.)

Bobby Romano had a three-run triple and scored in a five-run sixth as Fairleigh Dickinson knocked off Bryant. Shane Siebler had two hits and two RBI for the Knights (21-24). Ryan McGrath (3 IP, BB, K) saved the game for Joe Flack (4-2, 6 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 3 BB, K). Matt Albanese had two hits for the Bulldogs (26-24).

 

Cody Doyle had a two-run double to cap a three-run top of the ninth as Sacred Heart edged Wagner. James Cooksey (7-2) went the distance with two hits, one run, two walks and five strikeouts for the Pioneers (21-29-1). Trey Nicosia went 1 for 4 with a run for the Seahawks (27-22-1).

Robby Spencer drew a walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning as Morehead State edged Tennessee Tech. Spencer finished 2 for 4 with two runs, and Clayton Meyer went 2 for 3 with two RBI, including an RBI triple in the second inning for the Eagles (36-20). Dylan Bosheers and Jordan Hopkins homered for Tech (26-28).

 

Paschal Petrongolo went 3 for 5 with a homer, two runs and two RBI, and Ryan Sebra added three hits, two runs and an RBI as Jacksonville State eliminated SIUE. Graham Officer tossed 3.1 innings to pick up the win, and Travis Stout posted his 14th save for the Gamecocks (30-26). Keaton Wright homered and drove in two for SIUE (20-30).

Charlie Madden had a bases-clearing double to erase a 2-0 deficit and lift Mercer past The Citadel. Eric Nyquist (8-2, 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, BB, 2 K) earned the win, while Dimitri Kourtis fanned the final two batters of the game to record his third save for the Bears (32-21). Connor Walsh (2 for 4) homered for the Bulldogs.

 

Matt Winn had a leadoff homer in the bottom of the eighth to snap a 5-5 tie as VMI edged UNCG. Collin Fleischer drove in two, while Jordan Tarsovich had two hits and two runs for the Keydets (21-28). Tyler Long went 2 for 4 with three runs and one RBI for the Spartans.

 

Matt Ramsay went 3 for 4 with a homer, four runs and four RBI as Wofford thumped Furman in the completion of Wednesday's suspended contest. Carson Waln (3 for 4) and Kody Ruedisili (2 for 5, HR, 2 R) both drove in three for the Terriers (37-20). Chris Ohmstede went 2 for 4 with a homer, two runs and one RBI for the Paladins (24-32).

 

Johnathan Stokes had a two-run single to cap a three-run sixth as The Citadel eliminated UNCG. Austin Mapes went 3 for 5 with a homer, two runs and three RBI, while Jacob Watcher was 3 for 3 with two runs and two RBI for the Bulldogs (27-29). Ryne Sigmon drove in two for the Spartans (23-27).

Taylor Wright tossed a complete game with one run and six hits as Houston Baptist knocked off Central Arkansas in a winners’ bracket game. Curtis Jones singled in a run for a 2-1 lead in the third inning and added another RBI single in the eighth inning as the Huskies made it a 6-1 game. Ty Tice scored on a wild pitch for the Bears’ only run.

 

Josh Oller improved to 10-2 with 5.2 innings of two-run ball, and Brandon Smith earned his 10th save with 3.1 innings of relief as Northwestern State edged Nicholls. Cort Brinson went 2 for 4 with an RBI, an RBI single that capped a four-run fifth inning for the Demons (31-22). Darius Knight had three hits and an RBI for the Colonels (34-19).

 

Kyle Cedotal had a sacrifice fly to score Daniel Midyett in the bottom of the 12th inning as top-seeded Southeastern Louisiana eliminated McNeese State. Kevin Carr, whose single in the 12th put Midyett on third, went 4 for 6, and Carson Crites had three hits and two runs for the Lions (42-16). James Cantu went 3 for 5 for the Cowboys (32-25).

Dean Wilson had an RBI double to snap a 3-3 tie and spark a six-run seventh as Oral Roberts advanced to the championship game with a win over host South Dakota State. Matt Brandy (2 for 4) added an RBI double and Audie Afenir drove in two with a base hit later in the sixth for the Golden Eagles (40-14). Reid Clary (2 for 3, 2 R) had a two-run homer in the first for the Jackrabbits (33-22).

 

Greg Kaiser went 3 for 5 with a homer, four runs and four RBI as IPFW eliminated NDSU. Jonathan Reece (3 for 5) also drove in four for the Mastodons (27-25). Juan Gamez had a two-run homer in the seventh for the Bison (20-13).

Trosclair went 2 for 4 with three runs and four RBI, while Greg Davis had a two-run dinger to start the scoring in the second for the Ragin' Cajuns (35-21).
