Florida outlasts
Vanderbilt in 10 to win SEC series
UCLA prevails in 17 at ASU, Louisville blanks FSU, Rice
wins at FAU
No. 10 Florida 9, No. 7 Vanderbilt 7 (10)
In Nashville, Tenn., Dalton Guthrie had a one-out
double and scored in the top of the 10th to snap a 7-7 tie as
Florida won its SEC series at Vanderbilt. JJ Schwarz had an RBI
triple and scored in the eighth while added a run-scoring single
in the ninth for the Gators (17-10, 38-14). Buddy Reed went 3
for 5 with a homer, two runs and three RBI for Florida. Dansby
Swanson had two homers, three runs and three RBI for the
Commodores (18-9, 36-16).
No. 4 UCLA 11, No. 11 Arizona State 5 (17)
In Phoenix, Ariz., Brett Stephens had an RBI
single to snap a 5-5 tie in the top of the 17th and Trent
Chatterton added a three-run double later in the frame as UCLA
clinched a Pac-12 series win over Arizona State. Chris Keck had
a two-run double to cap a four-run eighth as the Bruins (18-5,
36-11) erased a 4-0 deficit. Both teams tallied a run in the
15th. Chatterton went 3 for 8 with two runs and four RBI to pace
the UCLA offense. Grant Dyer (3-0, 2 IP, BB, 4 K) earned the win
after David Berg (6 H, R, K) worked six innings in relief.
Johnny Sewald went 5 for 7 with two runs and one RBI for the Sun
Devils (14-9, 29-17).
No. 2 Louisville 7, No. 9 Florida State 0
In Louisville, Ky., Brendan McKay tosses 6.1
hitless innings as Louisville evened its ACC series with Florida
State. McKay (8-1) walked four and struck out six. He left the
game after throwing 109 pitches. Lincoln Henzman (2.2 IP, H, 2
BB, 3 K) preserved the shutout. The lone hit for the Seminoles
(17-9, 37-15) was a single by Chris Marconcini with two away in
the seventh. Colby Fitch had three hits, including a triple, and
three RBI, while Danny Rosenbaum (2 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI) homered
for the Cardinals (22-4, 39-12).
No. 20 Rice 5, No. 17 Florida Atlantic 1
In Boca Raton, Fla., Kevin McCanna pitched 5.2
scoreless innings as Rice secured a Conference USA series
victory at Florida Atlantic. McCanna (6-3) allowed five hits
with two walks and two strikeouts. Austin Orewiler (3.1 IP, 4 H,
R, 2 BB, 4 K) notched his third save. Charlie Warren had an RBI
single and scored in a three-run first for the visiting Owls
(19-7, 32-16). Ryan Chandler went 3 for 5 with a double, a run
and an RBI for Rice. Stephen Kerr was 2 for 4 and drove in a
run, while CJ Chatham added three hits and a run for FAU (17-9,
36-13).
Ivy League Championship Series
Dartmouth 7-2, Columbia 6-7
In
New York, Matt Parisi had two hits, including a homer and two
RBI, and Duncan Robinson struck out seven over seven innings as
Dartmouth built a 7-1 lead and held on for a win in the first
game of the Ivy League Championship series. In the second game,
Joe Falcone went 4 for 5 with three RBI, and Kevin Roy allowed
one earned run in 6.1 innings as the Lions took the second game.
The teams will play a single game today to decide the Ivy League
champ, who will go on to the NCAA Tournament. In the second
game, Adam Cline allowed one hit in 2.2 innings to post his
first save, and Nick Maguire homered and drove in two for
Columbia (28-15). Maguire also went 3 for 3 with two RBI as the
Lions tried to rally in the first game. Patrick Peterson worked
around some damage in the ninth inning to earn his sixth save
for the Big Green (21-21).
Patriot League Tournament - Semifinal Series
#4 Lafayette 10-0, #1 Navy 8-12
#2 Lehigh 6-4, #3 Holy Cross 2-7
In Annapolis, Md., Steven Cohen had three hits
and three RBI, and Toby Schwartz yielded two earned runs in six
solid innings as Lafayette knocked off top-seeded Navy in Game 1
of their Patriot League semifinal series. Jackson Kramer and
Parker Hills each added two hits and two RBI for the Leopards.
Ben McGrath had three RBI, and Sean Trent 4 for 5 with two runs
for the Midshipmen. In the second game, Stephen Moore tossed
seven shutout innings, and Leland Saile went 3 for 5 with four
RBI as Navy forced a deciding game today. McGrath added three
hits and three RBI.
In Bethlehem, Pa., Kevin Long and Kevin Boswick
combined to allow six hits, and Patrick Walshe went 2 for 3 with
a homer, two RBI and three runs as Lehigh built and early lead
and took Game 1 of their Patriot League semifinal series with
Holy Cross. Bill Schlich scored both runs for the Crusaders. In
the second game, Anthony Critelli hit a game-winning three-run
homer in the bottom of the ninth as Holy Cross forced a deciding
third game today. Trailing 4-2 in the top of the ninth, the
Mountain Hawks got two-out RBI singles from Justin Pacchioli and
Jacen Nalesnik to tie the game. Critelli finished with four RBI
for the Crusaders.
No. 1 LSU 8, Missouri 2
In Baton Rouge, La., Chris Chinea went 2 for 3
with a double, a homer, two runs and three RBI as LSU clinched
an SEC series win over Missouri. Conner Hale had two hits and
two RBI for the victorious Tigers (18-7, 42-8). Alex Lange (9-0,
7 IP, 2 H, R, 2 BB, 8 K) earned the victory. Josh Lester had two
hits and a run for Missouir (14-12, 28-23).
No. 2 Texas A&M 15, South Carolina 14
In College Station, Texas, Blake Allemand had a
two-run double to cap a three-run ninth as Texas A&M evened its
SEC series with South Carolina. Hunter Melton (3 for 5, 3 R, 3
RBI) homered to lead off the ninth for the Aggies (17-8, 42-8),
his second dinger of the game. Ryne Birk (3 for 5, 3 R, 4 RBI)
also went deep twice for Texas A&M. Hunter Taylor (2 for 6)
homered and drove in three for the Gamecocks (11-15, 29-22).
No. 5 TCU 2, Kansas 1 (10)
In Fort Worth, Texas, Dane Steinhagen drew a
one-out walk and scored on an error in the bottom of the 10th as
TCU secured a Big 12 series win over Kansas. Garrett Crain had
two hits and a run for the Horned Frogs (15-5, 39-9). Marcus
Wheeler went 1 for 3 with a run for the Jayhawks (7-13, 22-30).
