Louisville, Florida tops Vandy, Rice blanks FAU
No. 4 UCLA 9, No. 11 Arizona State 0
In Phoenix, Ariz., James Kaprielian tossed seven
scoreless innings as UCLA blanked Arizona State to begin their
Pac-12 series. Kaprielian (9-4) allowed five hits and a walk
with three strikeouts. The Bruins (17-5, 35-12) scored in four
of the first six innings in building an 8-0 lead. Chris Keck
went 3 for 5 with a homer and three runs, while Kort Peterson
added two hits and two RBI for UCLA. Colby Woodmansee and David
Greer both had two hits for the Sun Devils (14-8, 29-16).
No. 8 Florida State 13, No. 2 Louisville 4
In Louisville, Ky., Ben DeLuzio went 2 for 4 with
a homer, two runs and two RBI as Florida State thumped
Louisville to kick off their ACC series. The Seminoles (17-8,
37-14) scored three in each of the first two innings to take
control early. DJ Stewart went 2 for 4 with a double, two walks,
two runs and two RBI for FSU. Boomer Biegalski (5-3, 5 IP, 5 H,
4 R, 2 BB, 5 K) took the win, while Kyle Funkhouser (6-4, 5 IP,
6 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 5 BB, 6 K) suffered the loss. Zach Lucas (2 for
4, 2 RBI) went deep for the Cardinals (21-4, 38-12).
No. 10 Florida 7, No. 7 Vanderbilt 3
In Nashville, Tenn., A.J. Puk fanned 12 in seven
innings as Florida evened its SEC series with Vanderbilt. Puk
(7-3) surrendered five hits, three walks and two runs. JJ
Schwarz (3 for 5, 2 RBI) and Harrison Bader both homered for the
Gators (16-10, 37-14). Zander Wiel (2 for 3, 2 R) went deep for
the Commodores (18-8, 36-15).
No. 20 Rice 6, No. 17 Florida Atlantic 0
In Boca Raton, Fla., Jordan Stephens and Matt
Ditman combined on a five-hit shutout as Rice blanked Florida
Atlantic to kick off their Conference USA set. Stephens (6-3)
allowed three hits and a walk in 6.2 innings with eight
strikeouts to record the victory. Ditman (2.1, 2 H, 4 K)
registered his eighth save. Leon Byrd (2 for 4) had a two-run
single in the fourth for the visiting Owls (18-7, 31-16) to snap
a scoreless tie. Connor Teykl (2 for 4, 2 R) added a two-run
homer in the eighth for Rice. Billy Endris had two hits for FAU
(17-8, 36-12).
No. 1 LSU 8, Missouri 3
In Baton Rouge, La., Danny Zardon homered to
spark a four-run third as LSU took the SEC series opener from
Missouri. Alex Bregman and Kade Scivicque both had two hits and
two RBI for the home Tigers (17-7, 41-8). Doug Norman (4-1, 2.1
IP, BB, K) picked up the win in relief. Brett Peel went 3 for 5
with a run for Missouri (14-11, 28-22).
South Carolina 9, No. 2 Texas A&M 7
In College Station, Texas, Kyle Martin smacked a
two-run homer in the top of the ninth to snap a 6-6 tie and
propel South Carolina to an SEC series-opening win at Texas A&M.
Marcus Mooney had a three-run dinger in the sixth for the
Gamecocks (11-14, 29-21). Jack Wynkoop (8-4, 8 IP, 12 H, 6 R, 2
BB, 6 K) took the victory, while Reed Scott fanned two of the
three hitters he faced for his second save. Mitchell Nau (2 for
4, 4 RBI) and Hunter Melton went deep for the Aggies (16-8,
41-8).
No. 5 TCU 4, Kansas 2
In Fort Worth, Texas, Connor Wanhanen had a
two-run single to break a 1-1 deadlock and cap a three-run fifth
as TCU topped Kansas in their Big 12 series opener. Wanhanen and
Elliott Barzilli both had two hits for the Horned Frogs (14-5,
38-9). Preston Morrison (11-1, 6.2 IP, 8 H, UE, 5 K) took the
win, while Riley Ferrell (1 IP, H, UE, BB, K) notched his 12th
save. Joven Afenir had two hits and scored both runs for the
Jayhawks (7-12, 22-29).
Cal State Fullerton 3, No. 9 UC Santa Barbara

In Fullerton, Calif., Thomas Eshelman and Tyler
Peitzmeier combined on a four-hit shutout as Cal State Fullerton
blanked UC Santa Barbara to take sole possession of first in the
Big West. Eshelman (6-5) allowed three hits and a walk in eight
innings with nine strikeouts to earn the victory. Peitzmeier
allowed one hit and struck out one in the ninth for his 13th
save. The Titans (12-4, 27-20) scored once in the fourth and
twice in the sixth. Taylor Bryant walked four times, scored a
run and drove in one for Fullerton. Cameron Newell went 2 for 4
for the Gauchos (11-5, 34-12-1).

In Coral Gables, Fla., Garrett Kennedy had a
grand slam in an eight-run third to lead Miami past NYIT.
Kennedy drove in five while Zack Collins (4 for 5, 2B, HR, 4 R)
and David Thompson (4 for 4, 2B, HR, 3 R) both knocked in four
for the Hurricanes (36-19). Thomas Woodrey (5-2, 5 IP, 4 H, 4 K)
picked up the win. Gerson Sotolongo and Matt DiBiase both had
two hits for the Bears (14-28).
No. 14 USC 1, Stanford 0
In Los Angeles, Kyle Davis pitched a six-hit
shutout with 10 strikeouts as USC edged Stanford in the Pac-12
series lid-lifter. Davis (2-1) walked two in recording the
victory. AJ Ramirez (2 for 3) homered in the third for the
Trojans (14-8, 33-15). Blake Lacey doubled twice for USC. Tommy
Edman went 3 for 4 for the Cardinal (6-16, 20-27).
No. 15 Dallas Baptist 8, San Francisco 0
In Dallas, Joseph Shaw worked six scoreless
innings as Dallas Baptist shut out San Francisco to start their
weekend series. Shaw (9-2) allowed seven hits and one walk while
striking out five. Nash Knight (3 for 4) had a two-run single to
highlight a four-run second, while Justin Wall added a two-run
homer in the sixth for the Patriots (38-9). Connor Hofmann and
Nico Giarratano both had two hits for the Dons (23-26).
No. 16 Missouri State 1, Southern Illinois 0
In Carbondale, Ill., Jon Harris struck out 10 in
7.2 innings as Missouri State took Game 1 of its MVC series at
Southern Illinois. Harris (6-1) allowed two hits and did not
walk a batter. Bryan Young fanned two over the final 1.1 innings
for his 10th save. Jake Burger (2 for 4) had an RBI double in
the sixth for the Bears (13-3, 36-10). Chase Slone and Ryan Sabo
had hits for the Salukis (6-13, 11-39).
No. 18 Iowa 7, Minnesota 3
In Iowa City, Iowa, Eric Toole had two hits and
three RBI as Iowa won the Big Ten series opener from Minnesota.
Toole had an RBI single and scored on a two-run base hit by Kris
Goodman in the third. Toole added a two-run single in a
three-run sixth for the Hawkeyes (16-3, 35-12). Taylor Kaufman
had two hits and two runs for Iowa. Tyler Peyton (6-3, 7 IP, 6
H, 3 R, 1 ER, BB, 5 K) earned the victory. Matt Halloran had two
hits for the Gophers (7-12, 19-27).
No. 19 College of Charleston 13, UNCW 4
In Charleston, S.C., Nick Pappas and Blake Butler
each had three hits and three RBI, and Taylor Clarke struck out
10 over 7.1 innings as College of Charleston coasted past UNCW.
Ryan Brown contributed three hits and three runs, and Carl Wise
added three hits, three runs and two RBI as the Cougars (17-2,
36-10) scored five runs in the second inning to build a 6-3 lead
after the Seahawks (15-4, 33-13) scored three unearned runs in
the first inning. Luke Dunlap went 2 for 4 with a three-run
triple for UNCW.
