Fulmer fans 14 as Vanderbilt blanks Ole Miss

Tennessee tops Missouri, WSU edges Washington, BYU outlasts LMU

 

No. 1 Vanderbilt 6, Ole Miss 0

In Nashville, Tenn., Carson Fulmer tossed a two-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts as Vanderbilt blanked Ole Miss to kick off their SEC series. Fulmer (6-1) did not walk a batter and faced just three over the minimum. The Commodores (11-2, 28-7) scored in four of its first five at-bats. Bryan Reynolds (2 for 4, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI), Dansby Swanson (2 for 4, 3B, 2 R) and Rhett Wiseman each homered for Vandy. Colby Bortles and Errol Robinson both had hits for the Rebels (5-8, 16-18).

 

Tennessee 5, No. 20 Missouri 2

In Knoxville, Tenn., Andy Cox fanned eight in 6.1 innings as Tennessee topped Missouri in the SEC series opener. Cox (1-1) allowed six hits, one walk and two runs. Andrew Lee worked a 1-2-3 ninth with a pair of strikeouts to record his seventh save. Christin Stewart (2 for 4) homered and drove in three, while Nick Senzel (3 for 4) knocked in a pair for the Volunteers (5-8, 15-14). Jake Ivory had a two-run homer in the seventh for the Tigers (8-5, 22-12).

 

Washington State 3, Washington 2

In Pullman, Wash., J.J. Hancock had an RBI triple and scored in the bottom of the seventh as Washington State nipped Washington in the Pac-12 series lid-lifter. Hancock had two hits and two runs for the Cougars (4-9, 16-16). Sam Triece (7-2, 0.2 IP) earned the victory, while Ian Hamilton fanned one in a hitless ninth for his ninth save. Jack Meggs homered for the Huskies (5-8, 18-13).

 

BYU 5, Loyola Marymount 3 (12)

In Los Angeles, Eric Urry belted a two-run homer in the top of the 12th to lift BYU over Loyola Marymount in the WCC series opener. Urry had three hits and three RBI. Tanner Chauncey (2 for 4) and Dillon Robinson (3 for 5, 2 R) had RBI singles with two away in the top of the ninth for the Cougars (7-6, 16-17) to force extra innings. Keaton Cenatiempo (3-1, 3.1 IP, H, 5 BB, 2 K) earned the win, while Michael Rucker allowed one hit and struck out two in the 12th for his fourth save. David Fletcher and David Edwards both had three hits for the Lions (8-5, 20-14).
