In Charlottesville, Va., Sutton Whiting had two
doubles and drove in three as Louisville clinched an ACC
series win at Virginia. Kenny Towns had a three-run triple and
scored for the Cavaliers (6-8, 19-11) in the bottom of the
sixth to tie the game at 4-4. Zach Lucas (2 for 5, 2 R)
homered in the top of the seventh to give the Cardinals (13-1,
24-7) the lead for good. Whiting had an RBI double and scored
in a five-run eighth for UL. Corey Ray went 4 for 5 with two
doubles and two runs for the Cards.
Missouri 5, No. 5 Florida 3
In Columbia, Mo., Ryan Howard had a three-run
homer to cap a five-run fifth as Missouri won its SEC series
against Florida. Peter Fairbanks (3-3, 5 IP, 2 H, R, BB, 6 K)
earned the win for the Tigers (8-4, 22-11). Josh Tobias (2 for
3, 3B, 2 R, 2 RBI) went deep for the Gators (6-6, 24-9).
No. 2 Vanderbilt 4, Georgia 2
In Athens, Ga., Ro Coleman had a two-run double
to cap a three-run seventh as Vanderbilt completed an SEC
sweep at Georgia. Daniel Nichols had a two-run double in the
bottom of the fifth that gave the Bulldogs (5-7, 18-15) a 2-1
lead. Kyle Wright (4-0, 2.1 IP, 2 H, BB) picked up the win in
relief, while Philip Pfeifer (1.2 IP, BB, K) recorded his
fifth save.
No. 13 Miami (Fla.) 10, Duke 0
In Coral Gables, Fla., David Thompson homered
and knocked in four as Miami completed an ACC sweep of Duke.
Thompson had an RBI single in a five-run third and a three-run
homer in a four-run sixth. Garrett Kennedy (3B, 3 R) and
George Iskenderian (2 R, 3 RBI) both had three hits for the
Hurricanes (11-4, 24-9). Enrique Sosa (4-3, 6.1 IP, H, BB, 3
K) earned the victory. Peter Zyla had a hit and a stolen base
for the Blue Devils (4-11, 19-13).
No. 17 Rice 10, Middle Tennessee 0
In Houston, Jordan Stephens and Matt Ditman
combined on a three-hit shutout as Rice won its Conference USA
series against Middle Tennessee. Stephens (3-2, 6 IP, 3 H, 8
K) earned the victory, while Matt Ditman retired the final six
batters with three strikeouts to preserve the shutout. The
Owls (11-4, 22-12) scored three in the first, four in the
second and ended it with three in the eighth. Charlie Warren
went 3 for 5 with four RBI for Rice. Brad Jarreau, Jake Ingold
and Austin Norrell each had a hit for the Blue Raiders (9-3,
17-13).
