Trenton Brooks ripped a sixth-inning grand slam and scored
three runs, and Austin Byler added his third homer of the
season as Nevada stayed unbeaten by taking down Texas Tech
in a game that featured five home runs. The Wolf Pack beat a
Top-10 opponent for the first time since beating No. 6 Rice
in 2001 and improved to 4-0 for the first time since 1995.
Quinn Carpenter homered and drove in two for the Red Raiders
(3-1).
No. 3 TCU 4, UT
Arlington 1
In Fort Worth,
Mitchell Traver allowed four hits and struck out five in six
solid innings in his first career start as TCU tripped UT
Arlington. Traver, who has battled injuries for two years,
retired the first 10 batters he faced and got early support
from Evan Scoug, who had a two-run single in the first.
Derek Odell also had two RBI for the Horned Frogs (4-0).
Travis Sibley and Levi Scott each had two hits for the
Mavericks (1-3).
No. 7 UCLA 7, Cal
State Northridge 3
In Northridge, Calif.,
Darrell Miller Jr. and Sean Bouchard each homered in the
eighth inning to help UCLA break from a 3-3 tie and slip
past Cal State Northridge. The Bruins (4-0) also got a homer
from Chris Keck, giving them eight on the season – they hit
eight all of last year. Yusuke Akitoshi had three hits and
an RBI for the Matadors (4-1).

San Antonio 2
In Austin, Texas, Tres
Barrera went 5 for 6 with a three-run homer and six RBI as
Texas won its 1,400th game at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on the
40th
anniversary of the first game played there. Ben Johnson (3
RBI), Collin Shaw and C.J. Hinojosa each had three hits for
the Longhorns (3-2), who scored 11 runs in the final two
innings to pull from a 3-2 affair. Skyler Valentine had two
hits and two RBI for UTSA (2-2).

Carolina 5, Furman 2
In Columbia, S.C.,
Elliott Caldwell went 4 for 4 with two doubles and a
three-run triple as South Carolina slipped past Furman. The
Gamecocks (3-1) scored four times in the second inning, with
Caldwell tripling to the right-center gap with the bases
loaded and Kyle Martin singling him in. Clarke Schmidt
tossed 4.2 scoreless innings of relief, and Brandon Murray
picked up his first save for South Carolina. Sky Overton had
two hits and two runs, and Blake Chisolm had three hits for
the Paladins (1-3).

Georgia Southern 4
In Statesboro, Ga.,
Kel Johnson’s hot start to the season continued as the
Georgia Tech freshman blasted a grand slam in the top of the
seventh to spur the Yellow Jackets to a win over Georgia
Southern. Tech (3-1) trailed 4-1 when Johnson hit his third
homer – he’s now 9 for 19 with three doubles, three homers
and nine RBI on the season. Wade Bailey, another freshman,
went 3 for 3 with three RBI, including a two-run double in
the eighth. Spencer Duffie had two hits and three RBI for
the Eagles (3-1).
USC 6, Cal State
Fullerton 4
In Fullerton, Calif.,
Garrett Stubbs ripped a three-run double as part of a
four-run fourth inning to lead USC past Cal State Fullerton.
Bernardo Flores was effective in three middle-relief innings
to pick up his first win, and Kyle Davis earned his second
save for the Trojans (4-0). Dustin Vaught had three hits and
two runs, and David Olmedo-Barrera had two RBI for the
Titans (1-3).
Grand Canyon 7,
UNLV 0
In Phoenix, Paul
Panaccione went 2 for 4 with a homer, two runs and three
RBI, and David Walker added three hits and three runs as
Grand Canyon stayed unbeaten by blanking UNLV. Jake Repavich
tossed five innings of one-hit relief for the Lopes (4-0).
Dylan Ellis had two hits for UNLV (2-2).
