#3 Maryland wins Los Angeles
Regional
Taylor Bloom and Kevin Mooney combined on a
three-hitter as Maryland edged the top seed in the Regional and
the No.1 overall national seed in UCLA to advance to its second
straight Super Regional. Bloom allowed one hit and one run in
six innings with one walk and two strikeouts to earn the
victory. Mooney worked three scoreless frames with two hits, one
walk and five punchouts to preserve the victory. It looked like
the Bruins (45-16) would take the early lead, but Darrell Miller
Jr. was thrown out at the plate by center fielder LaMonte Wade
tying to score from third on a flyout in the top of the third.
Anthony Papio delivered an RBI double with two away in the
fourth to give the Terps (42-22) a 1-0 advantage. Brandon Lowe
drew a one-out walk and scored on a groundout by Nick Cieri in
the sixth as Maryland expanded its lead to 2-0. Kort Peterson (2
for 4) had an RBI single in the top of the seventh to cut the
deficit to one at 2-1, but UCLA stranded a pair as Mooney fanned
the final two hitters in the inning. The Bruins were retired in
order in the eighth before putting runners on the corners with
two away in the ninth. Mooney again recorded a strikeout to
begin the celebration for the Terps, who will play at Virginia
in a Super Regional for the second straight year.
Fort Worth Regional

#1 TCU wins Fort Worth Regional
It was an epic comeback or epic meltdown,
depending on your point of view. TCU erased an 8-1 deficit in
the eighth to pull out a one-run win in 10 innings over NC
State. Seven of the final eight runs scored by the Horned Frogs
(47-12) were unearned. The Wolfpack (36-23) put up four in the
top of the eighth to take an 8-1 lead. Two of the first three
TCU batters in the bottom of the eighth reached on errors. The
Horned Frogs had runners on the corners with two away before a
walk loaded the bases. An infield single, a bases-loaded walk
and a balk made it an 8-4 contest. Jeremie Fagnan had a two-run
single and another run came in on a passed ball as it was 8-7
heading to the ninth. NC State was retired in order in the top
of the ninth before Derek Odell had a leadoff single, was
sacrificed to second, moved to third on a balk and scored on a
passed ball on a swinging third strike to knot the score at 8-8.
The Wolfpack again went down 1-2-3 in the top of the 10th. Evan
Williams had a leadoff single in the bottom of the 10th,
advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt at first, was
sacrificed to third and brought home the game-winner on a base
hit by Elliott Barzilli. Jake Fincher (1 for 4, 2 R) drove in
