Lafayette Regional

Vincent Anthonia tossed six scoreless innings,
and Alex Juday closed with three innings as Jackson State
stunned Louisiana-Lafayete, the consensus No. 1 team in the
nation. The Tigers (32-23) became the third team from the
Southwetern Athletic Conference (SWAC) to capture an NCAA
Regional win since the 64-team expansion, the last being Texas
Southern’s monumental upset of defending national champion Rice
in 2004. Melvin Rodriguez (2 for 4) had an RBI single up the
middle to score Desmond Russell, who had doubled, in the fourth
inning for the game’s only run. Anthonia (4-0) allowed five hits
and three walks with two strikeouts. Juday stranded runners on
second and third and struck out two to post his fourth save for
Jackson State, which meets Mississippi State Saturday night.
Austin Robichaux (7-3) allowed four hits and struck out six for
the Ragin’ Cajuns (53-8), who saw their 10-game winning streak
come to an end. Blake Trahan went 3 for 4 for
Louisiana-Lafayette, which meets San Diego State in an
elimination game.
Jake Vickerson had a three-run triple, and Trevor
Fitts and Myles Gentry combined on a three-hitter and retired
the final 16 batters of the game as Mississippi State topped San
Diego State. Fitts (5-3) allowed three hits and two earned runs
in five innings, and Gentry closed with four hitless innings and
a strikeout for the Bulldogs (38-22), who meet Jackson State
Saturday. The Aztecs (42-20) scored two runs in the second as
Steven Pallares (2 for 4) and Evan Potter drove in runs.
Mississippi State, which scored all five of its runs with two
outs, scored four in the bottom of the second, three coming on
Vickerson’s triple.
Gainesville Regional
#4 College of Charleston 3, #1 Florida 2
#2 Long Beach State 6, #3 North Carolina 1
Brandon Murray had an RBI double, and Nick Pappas
followed with a two-run double as College of Charleston scored
three times in the first en route to an upset of Florida, the
No. 2 national seed. The start of the game was delayed by more
than three hours, but the Cougars (42-17) came out hot in
winning their 11th in 13 games. Taylor Clarke worked the first
4.1 innings, and Eric Bauer (6-2) – a hero from Charleston’s
23-inning win over William & Mary a couple weeks ago – came on
and held the Gators (40-22) in check for 3.2 innings. Michael
Hanzlik tossed a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts for
his 15th save, which tied a school record. Logan Shore, the SEC
Rookie of the Year, allowed 10 hits in three runs in five
innings.
Andrew Rohrbach allowed one run over 8.1 innings
as Long Beach State downed North Carolina. Rohrbach (7-2)
scattered seven hits with no walks and two strikeouts. The
Dirtbags (33-24) scored six in the fourth, keyed by a two-run
single by Eric Hutting and a two-run double by Colton Vaughn.
Landon Lassiter went 2 for 4 with one RBI for the Tar Heels
(34-26).
Tallahassee Regional
#4 Georgia Southern 7, #1 Florida State 0
#3 Kennesaw State 1, #2 Alabama 0
Sam Howard tossed a two-hit shutout with 10
strikeouts as Georgia Southern topped Florida State. Howard
(7-6) walked four. The Eagles (40-21) scored two in the first,
one in the sixth, one in the seventh and three in the ninth.
Aaron Mizell had two doubles, a run and an RBI, while Dalton
Busby (3 for 3, 2 RBI) and Garrett Chapman (2 for 5) both
homered for GSU. DJ Stewart and Jose Brizuela both had a hit and
a walk for the Seminoles (43-16).
In the earlier game, Travis Bergen was one out
away from a shutout as Kennesaw State edged Alabama. Bergen
(8-4) allowed five hits and one walk in a career-high 8.2
innings with three strikeouts. Justin McCalvin recorded the
final out for his 15th save. The Owls (38-21) scored the game's
lone run in the top of the fifth. Brennan Morgan had a leadoff
single, was sacrificed to second, moved to third on a wild pitch
and came home on a sacrifice fly by Kal Simmons. Austen Smith
had two hits and a walk for the Crimson Tide (34-23).
Baton Rouge Regional
#1 LSU 8, #4 Southeastern Louisiana 4

Sean McMullen had a two-run homer to cap a
four-run eighth as LSU rallied past Louisiana-Lafayette. Sam
Roberson (2-4) had a two-run homer in the top of the sixth to
give the Lions (37-24) a 4-2 lead. The Tigers (45-14-1) plated
two in the seventh before taking the lead in the eighth.
McMullen finished with two runs and three RBI, while Mark Laird
went 3 for 5 with two runs for LSU. Nate Fury (3-1) retired the
final six consecutive batters to pick up the win. Andrew Godbold
also went deep for SLU.
Justin Montemayor delivered a sacrifice fly in
the bottom of the 10th to lift Houston over Bryant. John Mullen
(2 for 4, 2B) had an RBI single in the top of the ninth for the
Bulldogs (42-15) to force the extra frame. Tyler Ford (9-0, 1
IP, H, 2 K) picked up the win for the Cougars (45-15).

Artie Lewicki hurled seven shutout innings as
Virginia handled Bucknell. Lewicki (6-1) allowed three hits and
three walks with five strikeouts. The Cavaliers (45-13) blew
open a 3-0 game with seven in the sixth. Derek Fisher drove in
two, while John La Prise (3 for 4, 2 R) and Mike Papi (3 for 5,
R, RBI) both had three hits for UVa. Anthony Gingerelli went 2
for 4 for the Bison (30-20).

Dylan Davis homered in the bottom of the seventh
to snap a 1-1 tie and propel Oregon State past North Dakota
State. Andrew Moore (6-5, 8 IP, 4 H, R) struck out 14 in
recording the win. Scott Schultz recorded the final two outs for
his sixth save. Gabe Clark went 2 for 2 with two walks and a run
for the Beavers (43-12). David Ernst (4-5, 7.1 IP, 10 H, 2 R, 3
BB, 6 K) kept the Bison (25-25) in the game. Kyle Kleinendorst
(2 for 4) went deep in the second for NDSU.
In the earlier game, Connor Spencer (2 for 4, 3 RBI) had a two-run
double in a five-run fifth as UC Irvine outscored UNLV. Jerry
McClanahan capped the fifth with a two-run single. Taylor Sparks
had three hits and two runs, while Kris Paulino scored three for
the Anteaters (36-22). Andrew Morales (10-2, 7 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2
ER, 3 BB, 4 K) earned the victory. Patrick Armstrong had a
two-run homer in the second for the Rebels (35-24).
Fort Worth Regional

#3 Sam Houston State 2, #2 Dallas Baptist 1
Boomer White had a two-out RBI single in the
bottom of the 11th as TCU eked past Siena. White went 3 for 6
with a double and a run for the Horned Frogs (43-15). Trey
Teakell (6-0, 1 IP, H) picked up the win in relief of Brandon
Finnegan (7.1 IP, 4 H, R, BB, 12 K) and Riley Ferrell (2.2 IP,
H, 5 K). Dave Hoffman went 2 for 3 with one RBI for the Saints
(26-32).
Travis Lee had an RBI single in the top of the
eighth to snap a 1-1 tie as Sam Houston State edged Dallas
Baptist. Tyler Eppler (9-6, 7 IP, 8 H, R, BB, 6 K) earned the
win, while Alan Scott fanned five over the final two innings to
record his fifth save. Hayden Simerly had three hits, while
Corey Toups went 2 for 2 with a run for the Bearkats (42-17).
David Martinelli went 2 for 4 with a double and a run for the
Patriots (40-20).
Houston Regional
#1 Rice 7, #4 George Mason 2

John Clay Reeves and Leon Byrd each had two-run
singles as Rice scored six times in the bottom of the eighth
inning to rally to beat George Mason. The Patriots (34-21)
scored twice in the top of the eighth to take a 2-1 lead – Mick
Foley had an RBI single, and a second run came in on an error.
The Owls (42-18), though, responded in a big way. Keenan Cook
singled in Ford Stainback, who had singled and moved up on Chase
McDowell’s sacrifice bunt. After Shane Hoelscher singled,
Michael Aquino had an RBI double for a 3-2 lead. Zach Lemond
(4-1) tossed the final 1.2 innings for the win after Kevin
McCanna allowed three hits, two runs (one earned) and struck out
five in 7.1 innings. Jared Gaynor (8-5) matched McCanna,
allowing one earned run on five hits entering the eighth.
Nathan Thornhill tossed seven solid innings as
Texas topped Texas A&M. Thornhill (7-2) allowed six hits and one
run with three walks and seven strikeouts. The Longhorns (39-18)
expanded a 3-1 lead with four in the third. C.J. Hinojosa (2 for
4, 2B, 2 R) and Collin Shaw (2 for 3) both drove in two for
Texas. Troy Stein and Krey Bratsen both had two hits for the
Aggies (33-25).

Kyle Funkhouser fanned 10 in eight scoreless
innings as Louisville blanked Kent State. Funkhouser (13-2)
allowed four hits and a walk. The Cardinals (46-15) scored all
their runs in the first three innings. UL plated two on an error
in the first, while Zach Lucas (2 for 3) delivered an RBI double
in the second. Corey Ray added a two-run single in the third.
Jon Wilson had two hits for the Golden Flashes (36-22).
Tucker Tharp had three hits and three RBI as
Kansas outscored Kentucky. Michael Suiter drove in two, while
Justin Protacio scored three for the Jayhawks (35-24). Kansas
scored two in the top of the seventh to snap a 6-6 tie. Drew
Morovick (10-4, 3.1 IP, H, 2 BB, K) earned the win, while
Stephen Villines (1.1 IP, H, K) earned his ninth save. Ka'ai Tom
homered and knocked in three for the Wildcats (35-24).
San Luis Obispo Regional
#1 Cal Poly 4, #4 Sacramento State 2
#3 Pepperdine 3, #2 Arizona State 2
Matt Imhof allowed one earned run over 7.2
innings as Cal Poly edged Sacramento State. Imhof (10-4) worked
around three hits and five walks. He surrendered two runs and
struck out four. Reed Reilly recorded the final four outs to
notch his 11th save. Jimmy Allen had a sacrifice fly in the
second, Mark Mathias (2 for 4, 2 RBI) delivered a run-scoring
double in the third, and John Schuknecht (2 for 3, 2 R) had an
RBI triple and scored in the fourth for the Mustangs (46-10).
Scott Loper went 2 for 3 with a run for the Hornets (39-23).
In the first game, Austin Davidson had a two-run
double in the second as Pepperdine edged Arizona State. The
Waves (40-16) led 3-0 before the Sun Devils put up runs in the
second and fourth. Davidson went 2 for 4 with a run, while
Hutton Moyer had two hits and a run for Pepperdine. Corey Miller
(9-4, 7.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 4 K) earned the victory, while
Eric Karch (1 IP, H, 2 K) registered his 14th save. Trever Allen
(2 for 4) homered for ASU.
Stillwater Regional
#3 Cal State Fullerton 5, #2 Nebraska 1
#1 Oklahoma State 8, #4 Binghamton 0
J.D. Davis belted a grand slam in the top of the
eighth to snap a 1-1 tie as Cal State Fullerton topped Nebraska.
Davis pitched a perfect ninth to secure the win for Koby Gauna
(5-2, 1.2 IP, 2 H, BB). Thomas Eshelman (6.1, 7 H, R, BB, 5 K)
was the starter for the Titans (33-22). Davis finished with two
hits, while Keegan Dale scored twice for Fullerton. Ryan Boldt
went 2 for 4 with a triple and a run for the Huskers (40-20).
Zach Fish went 2 for 3 with three RBI as Oklahoma
State beat Binghamton. The Cowboys scored a pair of runs in the
third, fifth, sixth and eighth. Donnie Walton went 3 for 4 with
three runs and one RBI, while Bryan Case homered and scored
twice for OSU. Vince Wheeland (10-0, 1.2 IP, BB, K), one of five
Cowboy pitchers, earned the win in relief. Zach Blanden and Bill
Bereszniewicz both had two hits for the Bearcats (25-26).
