Notes: The
Hurricanes have now made 42 straight NCAA tourney appearances,
the most in NCAA history, after winning the ACC’s regular-season
title. Entering the ACC tourney (1-2), Miami won 27 of 30 games
after a 14-12 start. The Hurricanes have gone to the College
World Series 11 times under head coach Jim Morris, who set an
NCAA record by reaching Omaha in each of his first six years at
Miami. The Hurricanes have four national championships (1982,
1985, 1999 and 2001) and are tied for the fifth-most in Division
I. Dale Carey, who had a huge ACC tourney and led Miami in
average, rebounded nicely in his senior year after hitting .192
as a junior. Freshman Jordan Heyward is the little brother of
Atlanta Braves star Jason Heyward.
Redshirt junior Bryan Radziewski is 27-7
in his career and has struck out 211 batters over the past two
years. Chris Diaz, one of three players named Diaz on the
roster, was 7-5 a year ago with a 1.64 ERA and followed it up
with a 9-0 mark this year. Javi Salas tossed a perfect game vs.
Villanova earlier this season.

Texas
Tech returns to the NCAA field for the first time since 2004
after improving its win total by 14 games under second-year
coach Tim Tadlock, who played for the Red Raiders under Larry
Hays. The Red Raiders reached the 40-win mark for the first time
since 2004. They started the season with a bang by taking three
of four against Indiana and they later took two of three at TCU,
both national seeds. Tyler Nelsony is slugging .656 – 20 of his
54 hits were for extra bases – and his on-base average is .487
in 35 starts. All Big 12 first-teamers Eric Gutierrez and Adam
Kirsch are the other two big sticks to watch in the order. Eight
pitchers on the staff totaled more than 25 innings, led by Chris
Sadberry’s 73. Johnny Drozd made 22 appearances (all in relief)
and ranks third on the team in innings.

program record with 29 wins. The Lions won their second straight
Ivy League title and 12th in program history. Columbia added
three games at Patriot League champion Bucknell following the
Ivy League championship. The Lions took two of three from the
Bison. Senior lefty David Speer was named Pitcher of the Year
and second baseman Will Savage was named Rookie of the Year in
the Ivy League.
