Notes:
Indiana will host a regional for the second consecutive year and
will enter the tournament having won 15 of its past 16 games and
30 of its past 33. This is the fifth NCAA trip for the Hoosiers
(1949, 1996, 2009, 2013). The Hoosiers made it to their first
College World Series in 2013. Tracy Smith was voted National
Coach of the Year in 2013 and Big Ten Coach of the Year. Junior
Kyle Schwarber was named a finalist for the Johnny Bench Award
and earned First Team All-American honors in 2013. Senior Dustin
DeMuth also made All- American honors getting voted second team
in 2013 and is a finalist for the 2014 Senior Class Award. IU
defeated Nebraska 8-4 in the Big Ten championship game at TD
Ameritrade Park in Omaha in front of 19,965 fans, an NCAA record
for a conference title game.

Hannahs was an All-American second baseman for ISU and was
inducted into the Indiana State University Athletics Hall of
Fame in 2010. The 1986 ISU squad won the Ann Arbor Regional and
advanced to the College World Series. Assistant coach Ronnie
Prettyman was a member of Cal State Fullerton;s 2004 national
championship team. ISU will face Stanford for the first time.
The Sycamores are 41-57-1 against Indiana and have not faced
Youngstown State. ISU lost its final regular season game and
went 0-2 in the MVC Tournament. The Sycamores enter the NCAA
tourney with an RPI of 21. Freshman closer Ryan Keaffaber's
father, Randy, played baseball at ISU from 1989-93.

Notes:
After a year out of the tourney, Stanford returns
to the NCAA field, thanks in part to a strong finish – 19-6 down
the stretch and series wins in its final four weekends. The
Cardinal has made the field 29 times in the past 34 years under
coach Mark Marquess, who reached win No. 1,500 against Cal on
March 4 and won two national titles (1987, 1988). The Cardinal
features Austin Slater, who has a 17-game hitting streak, and
Alex Blandino, who has 11 of the team’s 26 homers. Stanford has
five batters who hit over .300, but none of its other regulars
hit better than .240 – the Cardinal averages 4.5 runs a game.
Opponents hit only .202 off ace John Hochstatter, who won 10
games after going 3-3 last year. Stanford has won its past six
Regional games; it was outscored 35-8 in the 2012 Tallahassee
Super Regional.

Notes: The Penguins
were 12-36 and seeded No. 6 heading into the Horizon League
Tournament. YSU won four straight games, including two against
top-seeded Wright State. The Penguins scored a pair in the top
of the ninth in the championship game to edge the Raiders 5-4.
YSU will make its second appearance in the NCAA Tournament and
first since 2004.
