Conforto homers twice as Oregon
State sweeps UCLA
UNC edges FSU,
Virginia nips Georgia Tech, ULL wins at South Alabama
In Corvallis, Ore., Michael Conforto homered
twice and drove in five as second-ranked Oregon State defeated
UCLA 11-2 on Sunday to complete a Pac-12 series sweep. Nick Kern
had a two-run triple in the top of the first for the Bruins
(10-14, 23-25-1). The Beavers tied it in the third as Jeff
Hendrix (3 for 5, 2 R) clubbed a two-run homer. Conforto had a
three-run homer in a six-run seventh and added a two-run dinger
in the eighth. Jace Fry (10-1, 8 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K)
earned the victory.
North Carolina 5, No. 4 Florida State 4
In Chapel Hill, N.C., Tyler Ramirez had a
run-scoring single with two away in the bottom of the seventh to
snap a 4-4 tie as North Carolina salvaged the ACC series finale
against Florida State. Parks Jordan went 2 for 3 with one run
and one RBI for the Tar Heels (14-13, 30-21). Reilly Hovis (7-1,
4.1 IP, 3 H, R, BB, 8 K) earned the win in relief. Danny De La
Calle went 2 for 4 with one run and one RBI for the Seminoles
(19-8, 39-12).
No. 1 Virginia 3, Georgia Tech 1
In Charlottesville, Va., Brandon Waddell pitched
seven solid innings as Virginia completed a three-game ACC sweep
of Georgia Tech. Waddell (7-2) allowed five hits and a run with
one walk and four strikeouts. Austin Young pitched a hitless
eighth with one strikeout before Nick Howard fanned two in a
1-2-3 ninth for his 17th save. The Cavaliers (21-6, 41-9) scored
two in the second and added an insurance run in the seventh.
Kenny Towns went 2 for 4 with one run and one RBI for Virginia.
Elliott Barzilli homered in the fifth for the Yellow Jackets
(14-16, 29-23).
No. 3 Louisiana-Lafayette 13, South Alabama 3
In Mobile, Ala., Caleb Adams went 4 for 4 with a
double, two runs and one RBI, while Greg Davis was 3 for 4 with
a double, two runs and three RBI as Louisiana-Lafayette finished
a Sun Belt sweep of South Alabama. The Ragin' Cajuns (23-4,
46-7) scored three in the second and third before expanding on a
6-3 lead with five in the sixth and two in the seventh. Cody
Boutte (7-0, 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, BB, 5 K) picked up the win.
Matt Wojciechowski went 3 for 4 with a double for the Jaguars
(10-16, 21-29).
No. 6 Cal Poly 10, UC Irvine 3
In San Luis Obispo, Calif., Nick Torres went 3
for 5 with a homer, two runs and three RBI as Cal Poly won its
Big West series with first-place UC Irvine. The Mustangs (16-5,
41-10) scored a pair of runs in each of the first five innings
in building a 10-0 advantage. Chris Hoo (3 for 5, 3B) and Zack
Zehner (2 for 4, 3B) both had one run and two RBI for Cal Poly.
Casey Bloomquist (11-1, 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 2 K) earned the
victory. Adam Alcantara went 2 for 2 with two runs for the
Anteaters (15-3, 34-16).
No. 7 Louisville 6, Temple 4 (11)
In Camden, N.J., Louisville scored a pair of
unearned runs in the top of the 11th as Louisville won its
American series at Temple. Cole Sturgeon (2 for 7) and Jeff
Gardner (2 for 5, 2 RBI) both homered for the Cardinals (16-5,
40-12). Nick Burdi (3-1, 3 IP, 6 K) earned the victory. Michael
D'Acunti (2 for 5) had a three-run homer in the third for the
Owls (8-13, 13-29).
No. 9 Oklahoma State 17, Kansas State 5
In Manhattan, Kan., Zach Fish went 3 for 5 with a
homer and five RBI as Oklahoma State outscored Kansas State to
sweep the Big 12 series. Fish had a three-run homer in a
nine-run fifth. Dustin Williams (2 for 4, 3 R, 3 RBI) also went
deep for the Cowboys (16-5, 38-13). Tyler Nurdin (4-3, 5.2 IP, 6
H, 5 R, 2 BB, 5 K) recorded the win. Mitch Meyer had a two-run
homer in a four-run sixth for the Wildcats (4-17, 24-28).

Miami 4, Duke 3
In Durham,
N.C., Brandon Lopez hit a single in the eighth inning to knock
in the go-ahead run to give Miami an ACC series sweep of Duke.
Dale Carey went 3 for 5 with one RBI, while Lopez went 1 for 4
to help extend the road win streak of the Hurricanes (22-5,
38-14) to 15. Bryan Radziewski (6-2, 7 IP, 10 H, 3 R, 2 ER, BB,
4 K) earned the win, while Bryan Garcia (2 IP, 2 BB, 1 K) earned
his 14th save. Andy Perez went 3 for 3 with one run, while Aaron
Cohn went 1 for 3 with two RBI for the Blue Devils (15-12,
30-21).

Indiana 9, Penn State 2
In
University Park, Pa., Sam Travis hits his 10th home run and
drove in three to lead Indiana to a Big Ten series sweep against
Penn State and a share of the 2014 Big Ten regular season
championship. Travis went 2 for 5 with a homer and 3 RBI, while
Brad Hartong went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI for the Hoosiers
(19-2, 35-12). Scott Effross (4-1, 2 IP, 1 H, 1 SO) earned the
win in relief. The Nittany Lions only recorded six hits with
Taylor Skerpon going 1 for 4 with one RBI.
