Fry Twirls One-Hit Shutout as
Oregon State Sweeps Cal
Texas A&M wins series over LSU, ASU tops
ULL, Florida sweeps 'Bama
In Berkeley, Calif., Jace Fry tossed a one-hit
shutout as second-ranked Oregon State completed a Pac-12 sweep
of California with a 5-0 victory Sunday. Fry (9-1) walked one
and fanned six. The lone hit for the Golden Bears (7-14, 19-24)
was a leadoff single in the third by Vince Bruno. Fry has
allowed two hits in his past 17 innings. Michael Conforto (3 for
3, 2 R, 3 RBI) was a triple short of the cycle for the Beavers
(17-4, 34-8). Dylan Davis drove in a pair for OSU.
Texas A&M 4, No. 6 LSU 3
In College Station, Texas, Ronnie Gideon had a
leadoff homer in the bottom of the eighth to snap a 2-2 tie and
propel Texas A&M to an SEC series win over LSU. Gideon went 3
for 4 with two runs and was a triple away from the cycle. Andrew
Vinson (2-1, 2 IP, H, 2 K) earned the victory for the Aggies
(12-12, 30-19). Conner Hale (2 for 4, 2 R) went deep for the
Tigers (13-10-1, 35-13-1).
Arkansas State 6, No. 3 Louisiana-Lafayette 4
In Jonesboro, Ark., Stuart Levy had a two-run
double in the seventh to put Arkansas State ahead to stay in
avoiding the Sun Belt sweep to Louisiana-Lafayette. Levy had two
hits and three RBI, while Zach Maggio went 2 for 4 with two runs
for the Red Wolves (15-9, 27-21). Tyler Zuber (2-0) tossed three
scoreless innings with three hits, two walks and two strikeouts
to record the victory. Blake Trahan went 2 for 2 with two RBI
for the Ragin’ Cajuns (20-4, 43-7).
No. 7 Florida 13, No. 16 Alabama 3
In Tuscaloosa, Ala., Peter Alonso went 3 for 4
with a double, a homer and four RBI as Florida completed the SEC
sweep of Alabama. The Gators (18-6, 33-15) scored one in the
second and four in the third to take control. Harrison Bader (2
R, 2 RBI) and Ryan Larson (2 R, RBI) both had three hits for
Florida. Kyle Overstreet had two hits, including a double, and
two RBI for the Crimson Tide (13-11, 30-18).
No. 4 Cal Poly 7, UC Riverside 2
In Riverside, Calif., Peter Van Gansen went 2 for
4 with one run and two RBI as Cal Poly won its Big West series
at UC Riverside. Jordan Ellis and Chris Hoo also drove in a pair
for the Mustangs (14-4, 38-9). Casey Bloomquist (10-1, 6 IP, 9
H, 2 R, 3 BB, 3 K) picked up the win. Matthew Ellis drove in
both runs and David Andriese (2 for 4) scored both for the
Highlanders (8-7, 20-23).
No. 5 Florida State 7, Minnesota 1
In Tallahassee, Fla., Jose Brizuela went 2 for 3
with a homer, two runs and two RBI as Florida State completed a
three-game sweep of Minnesota. The Seminoles (36-11) erased a
1-0 deficit with three in the bottom of the third. John Nogowski
went 3 for 4 with a double, one run and one RBI for FSU. Dylan
Silva (2-0, 3 IP, H, 2 BB, 3 K) earned the win in relief. Connor
Schaefbauer had two hits for the Golden Gophers (22-19).
Georgia 5, No. 8 South Carolina 3
In Athens, Ga., Daniel Nichols belted a grand
slam in the third as Georgia registered an SEC series win over
South Carolina. Nichols also doubled and scored in the second.
Hunter Cole went 3 for 3 with a run for the Bulldogs (9-14-1,
23-23-1). David Sosebee (1-3, 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 4 K) picked
up the win. Patrick Harrington went 2 for 4 with a double and an
RBI for the Gamecocks (13-11, 35-13).
No. 9 Washington 21, Utah 17
In Salt Lake City, Trevor Mitsui went 4 for 6
with a homer, three runs and six RBI as Washington outscored
Utah to sweep their Pac-12 series. Andrew Ely (3 for 5, 2 R, 3
RBI) had a two-run double to highlight a five-run eighth as the
Huskies (19-5, 32-11-1) took the lead for good at 18-16. Josh
Rose homered twice and knocked in four for the Utes (3-18,
13-28).
No. 10 Miami 6, Alabama State 3
In Coral Gables, Fla., Brandon Lopez had a
two-run double to spark a four-run fourth as Miami won its
series with Alabama State. Laz Rivera (1 for 2, BB) scored twice
for the Hurricanes (34-14). Bryan Radziewski (5-2, 6.1 IP, 5 H,
3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K) registered the victory, while Cooper
Hammond (2.2 IP, BB, 4 K) notched his second save. Cesar Rivera
went 1 for 3 with a walk and a run for the Hornets (34-19).
No. 11 Louisville 9, USF 5
In Tampa, Fla., Zach Lucas had a three-run double in the eighth
inning and finished with four RBI as Louisville completed an
American Athletic Conference sweep of USF. Lucas’s double broke
a 4-4 tie in the eighth inning, and Corey Ray drove in a pair of
runs for the Cardinals (14-4, 37-11). Nik Alfonso had two hits
and two RBI for the Bulls (10-11, 24-23).
Arkansas 11, No. 12 Ole Miss 1
In Oxford, Miss., Bobby Wernes had three hits and
three RBI as Arkansas salvaged the finale of its SEC series at
Ole Miss. The Razorbacks (11-13, 30-20) put together four
multi-run innings, with two in the second, three in the third,
two in the eighth and four in the ninth. Joe Serrano had three
hits and two runs for Arkansas. Chris Oliver (6-4, 7 IP, 5 H, R,
3 BB, 5 K) recorded the victory. Preston Overbey went 1 for 3
with a double for the Rebels (15-9, 35-14).
No. 13 Oklahoma State 14, Arizona State 12
In Stillwater, Okla., Tanner Krietemeier went 3 for 3 with a
homer, two runs and three RBI, and Bryan Case went 3 for 4 with
a double, homer, RBI and four runs as Oklahoma State completed a
sweep of Arizona State. Gage Green added three hits and three
RBI, and Saulyer Saxon added four hits, two runs and an RBI for
the Cowboys (35-13). Jake Peevyhouse had three hits and three
RBI, and Brian Serven had a grand slam as part of a seven-run
inning that gave the Sun Devils (24-20) an 11-8 lead in the
fourth.
West Virginia 12, No. 14 Texas 6
In Morgantown, W.Va., Jackson Cramer and Ryan McBroom had three
hits and two RBI apiece, and Taylor Munden added two hits, three
runs and three RBI as West Virginia captured its Big 12 series
with Texas in the final game at Hawley Field. John Means (6-1)
worked 6.1 innings with six runs (three earned) for the
Mountaineers (9-8, 26-17). Madison Carter went 3 for 4 with two
runs, and Collin Shaw added two hits and two runs for the
Longhorns (11-10, 34-15).
No. 20 Houston 5, UCF 2
In Houston, Casey Grayson had two hits and three RBI, and Chase
Wellbrock tossed 3.1 scoreless innings to earn his 10th
save as Houston captured its American Athletic Conference series
against UCF, handing the Knights their first conference series
loss. Kyle Survance added two hits and two RBI, and Connor
Hollis contributed three hits and a run for the Cougars (10-8,
35-13). Erik Barber went 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI for the
Knights (16-5, 29-18).
Dartmouth 11, Yale 4
In Hanover, N.H., Nick Lombardi went 3 for 4 with a triple,
homer and four RBI as Dartmouth won a one-game playoff with Yale
to capture its seventh straight Rolfe Division title in the Ivy
League. The Big Green (18-19) will face Columbia in a
best-of-three series that begins with a doubleheader Saturday.
Lombardi had a two-run triple as Dartmouth scored seven times in
the third inning. Jeff Keller went 3 for 4 with two runs, and Bo
Patterson added three hits and an RBI for the Big Green. David
Toups went 2 for 4 with a homer and two RBI for the Bulldogs
(19-22).
