Conforto Leads Oregon State past
Washington State
Virginia nips Clemson, Florida tops South
Carolina, FSU edges Georgia Tech
In
Pullman, Wash., Michael Conforto (left) went 3 for 5 with two
runs and three RBI as sixth-ranked Oregon State posted a Pac-12
series win at Washington State with an 8-1 victory on Sunday.
The Beavers (11-4, 27-7) plated two in the first, two in the
fifth and four in the seventh. Jeff Hendrix and Dylan Davis both
had two hits and two RBI for OSU. Jace Fry (7-1, 8 IP, 3 H, R, 5
BB, 6 K) earned the victory. Nick Tanielu had two hits and a run
for the Cougars (7-5, 16-16).
No. 2 Virginia 1, No. 16 Clemson 0
In Charlottesville, Va., Brandon Waddell and two
relievers combined on the shutout as Virginia won its ACC series
against Clemson. Waddell (5-1) allowed six hits in 6.1 innings
with no walks and four strikeouts to earn the victory. Whit
Mayberry worked around a hit and a walk in 1.2 innings with
three strikeouts. Nick Howard fanned one in the ninth and
recorded his 11th save. Mike Papi knocked in Robbie Coman with a
sacrifice fly in the third for the game’s lone run. Branden
Cogswell went 2 for 4 with a double for the Cavaliers (14-4,
30-6). Shane Kennedy went 2 for 4 for the Tigers (10-7, 21-14).
No. 20 Florida 6, No. 4 South Carolina 5
In Columbia, S.C., Zack Powers had an RBI double
to highlight a four-run eighth as Florida won its SEC series at
South Carolina. Taylor Gushue and Braden Mattson both went 3 for
5 with one run and one RBI, while Buddy Reed was 3 for 3 with
one run and one RBI for the Gators (9-6, 23-13). Dane Dunning
(1-0, 0.2 IP, BB, K) picked up the win, while Eric Hanhold (2
IP, H, R, BB, 2 K) recorded his second save. Kyle Martin had two
hits and two runs, while Jordan Gore homered for the Gamecocks
(8-7, 28-7).
No. 10 Louisville 10, No. 9 Houston 3
In Houston, Will Smith had a two-run single to
cap a four-run fifth as Louisville completed the American sweep
of Houston. The score was knotted at 2-2 after four before the
Cardinals (7-2, 27-8) took the lead for good with four in the
fifth. Zach Lucas went 2 for 4 with two runs and three RBI,
while Grant Kay added two hits and two RBI for UL. Anthony
Kidston (3-0, 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 6 K) recorded the win.
Ashford Fulmer (3 for 4, 2 R) went deep for the Cougars (4-5,
26-9).
No. 1 Florida State 5, Georgia Tech 4
In Atlanta, Josh Delph had a two-run single to
cap a three-run eighth as Florida State rallied past Georgia
Tech to salvage the finale of their ACC series. Delph had three
hits, including a pair of doubles. Brandon Gold had a two-run
double to cap a four-run first for the Yellow Jackets (10-8,
23-14). The Seminoles (14-4, 27-8) scored two in the fifth
before taking the lead with three in the eighth. Gage Smith
pitched 6.1 scoreless innings of relief with four hits and four
strikeouts before Dylan Silva (2-0, 1.1 IP, K) picked up the
win. Jameis Winston, who drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth,
worked around a hit and a walk in the ninth to earn his fifth
save.
No. 3 Louisiana-Lafayette 6, UALR 3
In Lafayette, La., Jace Conrad went 3 for 3 with
two doubles, two runs and two RBI as Louisiana-Lafayette
completed a Sun Belt sweep of UALR. The Ragin’ Cajuns (14-1,
34-4) scored one in the second and three in the third to take
control. Cody Boutte (5-0, 6 IP, 4 H, R, BB, 7 K) earned the
win, while Reagan Bazar (1.1 IP, 2 BB) recorded his sixth save.
Austin Pfeiffer had two hits, including a home run, for the
Trojans (13-20).
No. 5 Cal Poly 8, Hawaii 3
In Honolulu, Nick Torres went 3 for 5 with a
double, a run and two RBI as Cal Ply swept its Big West series
at Hawaii. The Mustangs (8-1, 30-5) scored three in the third
and three more in the eighth. Peter Van gansen had two hits and
two RBI, while Brian Mundell (2 for 4) homered for Cal Poly.
Casey Bloomquist (8-0, 6.2 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 2 K) picked up
the win. Marc Flores went deep for the Rainbows (2-7, 14-19).
No. 7 Texas 8, Oklahoma 1
In Norman, Okla., Nathan Thornhill tossed a
five-hitter as Texas completed a three-game Big 12 sweep of
Oklahoma. Thornhill (6-0) walked one and struck out six. Mark
Payton had three doubles, while Brooks Marlow homered, scored
twice and drove in a pair for the Longhorns (9-3, 29-8). Hector
Lorenzana had two hits and one RBI for the Sooners (4-5, 23-14).
Texas A&M 8, No. 8 Vanderbilt 2
In Nashville, Tenn., Krey Bratsen went 3 for 3
with two doubles, two runs and two RBI as Texas A&M won its
SEC series at Vanderbilt. Cole Lankford had two sacrifice
flies, Troy Stein had two hits and two runs, and Jonathan Moroney went deep for the Aggies (7-8, 22-15). Grayson Long
(4-1, 7.2 IP, 11 H, 2 R, BB, 4 K) registered the victory. Nolan
Rogers had two hits and a run for the Commodores (7-8, 27-10).
Arkansas 10, No. 11 LSU 4
In Baton Rouge, La., Blake Baxendale belted a
grand slam in the top of the first to help Arkansas avoid the
SEC sweep at LSU. Baxendale finished with two hits and five RBI,
while Eric Fisher also went deep with two runs and two RBI for
the Razorbacks (7-8, 22-15). Chris Oliver (4-3, 7 IP, 4 H, 4 R,
7 BB, K) received the win. Jake Fraley drove in two for the
Tigers (8-6-1, 27-9-1).
Stanford 6, No. 12 Washington 3
In Seattle, Stanford scored four in the first and
two in the third in salvaging the Pac-12 series finale at
Washington. Zach Hoffpauir went 3 for 3 with two doubles, one
run and one RBI, while Austin Slater (2 for 4, 2 R) and Brant
Whiting (1 for 4) both drove in two for the Cardinal (4-8,
12-16). John Hochstatter (4-1, 7 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 7 K) earned
the win, while AJ Vanegas (2 IP, H, 2 K) secured his third save.
Robert Pehl and Austin Rei (2 RBI) both homered for the Huskies
(12-3, 24-7-1).
No. 13 Alabama 4, Auburn 3
In Tuscaloosa, Ala., Casey Hughston delivered an
RBI double with two away in the bottom of the ninth as Alabama
won its SEC set from Auburn. Hughston finished with three hits,
as did Georgie Salem (3 for 5, R, RBI) for the Crimson Tide
(10-5, 24-11). Thomas Burrows (4-1, 2 IP, H, 2 K) picked up the
win. Brett Binning had three hits and one RBI for the Tigers
(6-9, 21-16).
Missouri 8, No. 14 Kentucky 3
In Lexington, Ky., Dillon Everett went 3 for 5
with two runs and two RBI as Missouri won its SEC series at
Kentucky. The Tigers (6-9, 17-17) snapped a 3-3 tie with one in
the sixth and added four in the ninth. Eric Anderson and Jake
Ring both had three hits and two runs for Missouri. Anderson
(2-2, 7 IP, 9 H, 3 R, BB, 10 K) also picked up the win, while
Keaton Steele (2 IP, H, K) earned his ninth save. Austin Cousino
had three hits and two runs for the Wildcats (7-8, 23-13).
No. 15 Oregon 6, UC Riverside 5
In Eugene, Ore., Kyle Garlick had a two-run
double in the seventh to snap a 3-3 tie as Oregon completed a
three-game sweep of UC Riverside. Tyler Baumgartner and Mitchell
Tolman both had two hits, two runs and one RBI for the Ducks
(27-10). Darrell Hunter (3-1, 1 IP, H) earned the win, while
Jake Reed (1 IP, 2 H, 2 R) recorded his ninth save. Francisco
Tellez homered and drove in three for the Highlanders (14-17).
No. 17 Ole Miss 12, No. 18 Mississippi State 2
In Starkville, Miss., Austin Anderson went 4 for
5 with two doubles and two RBI as Ole Miss won its SEC series at
Mississippi State. Preston Overbey had three hits and three RBI
for the Rebels (9-6, 29-9). Sam Smith (5-2, 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2
BB, 3 K) earned the win, while Jeremy Massie (3 IP, 2 H, BB, 3
K) notched his first save. Derrick Armstrong had two hits and a
run for the Bulldogs (7-8, 22-15).
UC Santa Barbara 2, No. 19 Cal State Fullerton
1
In Santa Barbara, Calif., Kenny Chapman and two
relievers held Cal State Fullerton to one run as UC Santa
Barbara claimed the Big West series win. Chapman (1-0) allowed
five hits and a run in five innings with two walks and three
strikeouts. Greg Mahle surrendered two hits in two innings with
two strikeouts, while Dillon Tate allowed a hit and a walk in
two innings with four strikeouts to record his eighth save.
Tyler Kuresa went 2 for 4 with a double and a run for the
Gauchos (4-5, 22-8). Matt Chapman had two hits and one RBI for
the Titans (3-3, 18-13).
