Gum Helps UAB Edge Alabama
ULL outscored McNeese
State, LSU blanks Lamar, Oregon tops Portland
In Tuscaloosa, Ala., Griffin Gum delivered a
run-scoring single to snap a 1-1 tie in the top of the eighth as
UAB edged No. 13 Alabama 2-1 Wednesday evening. Gum went 3 for 4
for the Blazers (23-10). Adam Lamar (1-0, 0.2 IP, 2 H, R, K)
picked up the win, while Adam Lau pitched a perfect ninth with
one strikeout for his fourth save. Austen Smith homered in the
seventh for the Crimson Tide (22-10).
No. 3 Louisiana-Lafayette 14, McNeese State 8
In Lake Charles, La., Ryan Leonards had a two-run
single in a six-run eighth to snap an 8-8 tie and help
Louisiana-Lafayette outscore McNeese State. Leonards went 3 for
6 with three runs, while Blake Trahan (2 for 6, 2 R, 2 RBI) and
Michael Strentz (1 for 5, 2 R, 3 RBI) both homered for the Ragin'
Cajuns (31-4). Greg Milhorn (3-1, 3 IP, 2 H, R, BB, K) earned
the victory. Connor Lloyd had two hits and three RBI, while
Jackson Gooch went 3 for 4 with two doubles, three runs and one
RBI for the Cowboys (19-12).
No. 11 LSU 5, Lamar 0
In Baton Rouge, La., Tyler Moore went 2 for 4
with one run and one RBI as LSU blanked Lamar. The Tigers
(25-8-1) scored one in the first, two in the second and two in
the fifth. Andrew Stevenson went 1 for 3 with a double, two runs
and one RBI for LSU. Nine pitchers combined on the four-hit
shutout. Reed Seeley, Sam Bumpers, Kyle Markum and Mason Salazar
each had a hit for the Cardinals (18-15).
No. 15 Oregon 3, Portland 0
In Portland, Ore., Brando Tessar fanned eight
over seven scoreless innings as Oregon blanked Portland. Tessar
(2-0) allowed four hits and did not walk a batter. Garrett
Cleavinger struck out the three batters he faced in the eighth
and Jake Reed worked the ninth to secure the shutout and record
his seventh save. Mitchell Tolman had an RBI double in the
fourth for the Ducks (24-10) and Mark Karaviotis added a two-run
single an inning later. Caleb Whalen had three hits for the
Pilots (7-27).
No. 17 Ole Miss 8, Murray State 5
In Oxford, Miss., Austin Anderson had a two-run
single to cap a six-run fourth as Ole Miss downed Murray State.
Braxton Lee and Austin Knight both had three hits and a run for
the Rebels (27-8). Matt Denny (1-1, 2 IP, H, R, BB, 2 K) picked
up the win in relief, while Wyatt Short fanned the final two
hitters to notch his second save.
