Florida blanks Florida State to
win season series
Virginia tops JMU, New Orleans nips ULL,
South Carolina downs Furman
In Tallahassee, Fla. Casey Turgeon homered and
drove in four as No. 20 Florida beat top-ranked Florida State
for the third time this season, 8-0 on Tuesday. Turgeon hit a
three-run homer to cap a four-run fifth for the Gators (21-12).
Danny Young (4-0, 5 IP, 2 H, 4 BB, 5 K) earned the win. Casey
Smit had two of the four hits for the Seminoles (26-6).
No. 2 Virginia 9, James Madison 3
In Harrisonburg, Va., Joe McCarthy went 4 for 5
with two doubles, a homer, two runs and four RBI as Virginia
downed James Madison. Mike Papi also homered and drove in four
for the Cavaliers (28-5). Alec Bettinger (4-0, 4 IP, 2 H, 3 BB,
K) was the starter and winner. Kyle Weston had a two-run double
and scored in the ninth for the Dukes (11-18).
New Orleans 8, No. 3 Louisiana-Lafayette 7
In Lafayette, La., Jonathan Santana had a two-run
double to highlight a five-run fourth as New Orleans surprised
Louisiana-Lafayette. Jonathan Coco added a two-run triple to cap
a three-run seventh for the Privateers (10-20). Reese Kanter
went 4 for 5 with two runs and an RBI single in the seventh to
snap a 5-5 tie and give UNO the lead for good. Seth Laigast
(2-2, 2.2 IP, H, R, 4 BB, 4 K) recorded the victory, while
Darron McKigney recorded the final three outs for his first
save. Caleb Adams went 4 for 4 with a double, a homer and two
runs for the Ragin’ Cajuns (30-4).
No. 4 South Carolina 9, Furman 2
In Greenville, S.C., Kyle Martin went 3 for 4
with a home run and four RBI as South Carolina defeated Furman.
The Gamecocks (27-5) scored three in the top of the first and
added four in the third for a 7-2 lead. Marcus Mooney went 3 for
4 with a run, while Connor Bright had two hits and two RBI for
South Carolina. Taylor Widener (2-0, 4.2 IP, H, BB, 4 K) earned
the win in relief. Andrew MacLatchie had a two-run single in the
second for the Paladins (11-22).
No. 5 Cal Poly 6, Saint Mary's 2
In San Luis Obispo, Calif., Cal Poly scored in
five of the first six innings in defeating Saint Mary's. Peter
Van Gansen went 1 for 1 with three walks and three RBI for the
Mustangs (27-5). Justin Calomeni (6-1, 5 IP, 4 H, R, 4 K) picked
up the win. Anthony Gonsolin had two hits for the Gaels (13-18).
No. 8 Vanderbilt 6, Indiana State 2
In Nashville, Tenn., Walker Buehler struck out 10
in seven innings as Vanderbilt topped Indiana State. Buehler
(6-1) allowed three hits, three walks and one run. Karl Ellison
drove in two for the Commodores (26-8). Jacob Hayes went 2 for 4
with a double, a homer and two RBI for the Sycamores (21-8).
No. 9 Houston 7, Texas State 1
In Houston, Kyle Survance had a three-run single
in a four-run second as Houston took care of Texas State.
Michael Pyeatt went 2 for 2 with a run for the Cougars (26-6).
Andrew Lantrip (2-0) allowed one hit over four scoreless innings
of relief to earn the victory. Granger Studdard went 1 for 3
with one RBI for the Bobcats (18-14).
No. 10 Louisville 3, Purdue 1 (10)
In West Lafayette, Ind., Zach Lucas doubled and
scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th as Louisville
outlasted Purdue. Lucas and Jeff Gardner both had two hits and a
run for the Cardinals (24-8). Cole Sturgeon (2-0, 2.1 IP, H, 3
BB, 3 K) earned the win. Kyle Wood (2 for 4) homered for the
Boilermakers (6-22).
Morehead State 4, No. 14 Kentucky 4
In Lexington, Ky., Robby Spencer went 2 for 5
with a homer, two runs and two RBI as Morehead State stopped
Kentucky. The Eagles (16-16) built a 6-1 after seven. Blaine
Tanner (2 for 3) also drove in two for MSU. A.J. Reed doubled
and drove in two, while Storm Wilson added a pinch-hit homer in
the ninth for the Wildcats (22-11).
No. 15 Oregon 15, Portland 10
In Eugene, Ore., Kyle Garlick had a two-run
double to highlight a nine-run first as Oregon outscored
Portland. Mitchell Tolman went 2 for 3 with two walks, two runs
and two RBI for the Ducks (23-10). Caleb Whalen had a double, a
homer and six RBI to lead the Pilots (7-26).
Georgia 6, No. 16 Clemson 2
In Clemson, S.C., Hunter Cole went 3 for 5 with a
homer, two runs and four RBI to lead Georgia past Clemson. The
Bulldogs (19-13-1) scored one in the first and four in the
second to take control. Nelson Ward added two hits, including a
double, and two RBI for Georgia. Patrick Boling (3-2, 7.2 IP, 5
H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K) earned the victory. Jay Baum went 1 for
2 with a walk and two runs for the Tigers (20-12).
No. 17 Ole Miss 9, Memphis 1
In Memphis, Tenn., Preston Overbey went 3 for 4
with two RBI as Ole Miss manhandled Memphis. The Rebels scored
three in the fourth and four in the fifth in building a 9-0
lead. Will Allen (2 for 3, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Sikes Orvis both
homered for Ole Miss. Jeremy Massie (2-2, 5 IP, 4 H, 2 K) earned
the victory. Tucker Tubbs had three hits for the Tigers (18-15).
No. 18 Mississippi State 4, Southern Miss 3

In Pearl, Miss., Derrick Armstrong walked and
scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 11th as Mississippi
State edged Southern Miss. Armstrong finished with two hits and
three runs for the Bulldogs (21-13). Mason Robbins drove in a
pair for the Golden Eagles (19-15).
No. 19 Cal State Fullerton 4, UCLA 3
In Fullerton, Calif., Matt Chapman had a two-run
triple and scored in a three-run fifth as Cal State Fullerton
edged UCLA. Miles Chambers (2-0, 2.1 IP, 2 H, R, 2 K) earned the
win in relief, while J.D. Davis retired the final six batters
with three strikeouts to record his fourth save for the Titans
(17-11). Justin Hazard drove in a pair for the Bruins (18-13).
