Riser
tabbed at SLU
Matt Riser, interim head coach at Southeastern
Louisiana since former coach Jay Artigues resigned to become
athletic director on June 6, has been named head coach of Lions
after a national search.
Riser,
30, served as an assistant for eight seasons and becomes one the
youngest head coaches at the Division I level. He played under
Artigues at Pearl River Community College before playing his
final two seasons at Tulane. The Green Wave reached the 2005
College World Series during his junior year.
Riser started his coaching career in 2008 as a
volunteer assistant for the Lions. He became a full-time
assistant the following year and has served as SLU’s main
hitting coach and recruiting coordinator.
