Rosenbaum's sac fly lifts Louisville over Indiana

UNC downs JMU, Vanderbilt beats Presbyterian, Oregon State stops Portland

 

In Louisville, Ky., Danny Rosenbaum delivered a game-winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth as No. 11 Louisville edged No. 16 Indiana 4-3 Wednesday in front of a crowd of 3,530 at Patterson Stadium for their ninth straight victory. Cole Sturgeon (1 for 3) started the ninth with a double, was sacrificed to third by Kyle Gibson (1 for 2, R, RBI) and came home on the fly ball to right from Rosenbaum. Nick Burdi (3-2) got the final out in the top of the ninth to record the win. Dustin DeMuth (2 for 4) had a two-run homer to highlight a three-run fourth as the Hoosiers (36-10) took a 3-1 advantage. The Cardinals (39-10) tied it with a pair in the seventh.

 

No. 1 North Carolina 6, James Madison 1

In Chapel Hill, N.C., Chris Munnelly allowed two hits and one run over five innings as North Carolina downed James Madison in a game called in the sixth due to rain. Munnelly (5-0) walked three and fanned six. Michael Russell (3 for 3, R) and Parks Jordan (1 for 3, 2B) both drove in two for the Tar Heels (44-4). Colby Roberts was 1 for 3 with one RBI for the Dukes (20-25).

 

No. 2 Vanderbilt 5, Presbyterian 2

In Nashville, Tenn., Vanderbilt used a three-run third to get past Presbyterian at Hawkins Field. The Commodores (42-6) had single runs in the second and fourth. Spencer Navin (2 for 3) homered for Vanderbilt. TJ Pecoraro (3-1, 3 IP, BB, 2 K) earned the win. Robby Swab had a two-run single in the top of the ninth for the Blue Hose (23-26). Presbyterian starter Tim Corbin (2-3, 6 IP, 11 H, 5 R, BB, 3 K) took the loss.

 

No. 5 Oregon State 4, Portland 3

In Keizer, Ore., Jake Rodriguez had a two-run single to cap a three-run fifth as Oregon State nipped Portland as 3,294 watched at Volcanoes Stadium. The Beavers (38-8) won for the ninth straight time and made it 18 straight over the Pilots (17-29) going back to 2007. Rodriguez finished with three hits, as did Tyler Smith (2 2B, 2 R). Tony Bryant (1-0, 3.1 IP, 2 BB, 4 K) got the win in relief, while Scott Schultz (1 IP, H) registered his ninth save. Ben Grubb had two hits, including a double, and two runs for Portland.

 

No. 9 Florida State 14, Stetson 2

In DeLand, Fla., DJ Stewart had two hits and four RBI to lead Florida State to a two-game sweep over Stetson. The Seminoles (40-9) scored eight in the top of the first to take control. Seth Miller (3 for 4, 2B, RBI) and Giovanny Alfonzo (2 for 2, 2 BB, RBI) both scored three. Bryant Holtmann (3-0, 2 IP, 5 H, R, K) picked up the win. James Rasmussen and Darby McCormick both had two hits for the Hatters (23-26).

 

No. 13 South Carolina 9, Wofford 3

In Columbia, S.C., Joey Pankake’s two-run homer keyed a six-run seventh as South Carolina rallied past Wofford in front of 7,193 fans at Carolina Stadium. Chase Vergason had three hits, Tanner English drove in two and Max Schrock (2 for 5, 2 R) also went deep for the Gamecocks (34-14). Adam Westmoreland (6-1, 1.2 IP, H, 2 K) picked up the victory. Alec Paradowski went 3 for 4 with two runs for the Terriers (20-31).
