Virginia completes ACC
sweep at Miami
St. John's stomps Iona, Oklahoma blanks
Mid-America
In Coral Gables, Fla., Mitchell Shifflett drove
in a pair as Virginia downed Miami 7-4 Monday evening to
complete a three-game ACC sweep in front of 2,253 fans at Mark
Light Field. The Cavaliers (14-10, 31-14-1) scored three in the
second, one in the third and three in the sixth in winning for
the seventh straight time. Derek Fisher went 3 for 5 with one
run and one RBI for Virginia. Artie Lewicki (3-2, 6.1 IP, 3 H, 2
R, 1 BB, 5 K) registered the win. Brad Fieger went 2 for 4 with
a double, one run and one RBI, while Tyler Palmer homered and
scored twice for the Hurricanes (12-12, 27-17).
St. John’s 19, Iona 1
In Queens, N.Y., Matt Wessinger whacked a grand
slam to highlight a 10-run second as St. John’s smothered Iona
at Kaiser Stadium. Sean O’Hare went 3 for 4 with a double, three
runs and three RBI, while Robert Case had three hits, including
a double, and four runs for the Red Storm (29-16). Brendan
Lobban (5-3, 5 IP, 3 H, 6 K) earned the victory. Matt Kriss went
2 for 2 for the Gaels (16-28).
Oklahoma 11, Mid-America 0
In Norman, Okla., Max White doubled twice and
drove in three as Oklahoma defeated Mid-America Christian
University at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The Sooners (29-16) used a
six-run sixth to build an 8-0 lead and added three in the
eighth. White has eight straight multi-hit games. Dillon Yeaman
had a three-run homer to cap the sixth-inning outburst, his
first collegiate hit. Jake Fisher (1-0, 3.2 IP, 2 H, 7 K) picked
up the win. Luis Martinez went 3 for 4 with a double and Joe
Moore added two hits for the Evangels (9-39).
