UTSA ends Baylor's
24-game win streak
Louisville downs Kentucky, USF wins at
Florida, Stanford edges BYU
In San Antonio, Texas, Jordan Pacheco and two
relievers combined to hold third-ranked Baylor to one run as
UTSA ended BU’s 24-game win streak with a 4-1 victory Tuesday in
front of 1,151 fans at Wolff Stadium. Pacheco (1-2) scattered
seven hits with one run, one walk and five strikeouts. Clint
Sharp gave up one hit in 2.2 scoreless innings with three
punchouts, while Matt Sims fanned two in a hitless ninth for his
sixth save. Daniel Rockett (2 for 4) had a two-run single to cap
a three-run first for the Roadrunners (18-23). R.J. Perucki went
2 for 4 with a double and one RBI for UTSA. Logan Vick was 3 for
3 with a run for the Bears (35-8).
Louisville 10, No. 2 Kentucky 2
In Louisville, Ky., Ty Young went 2 for 4 with a
double and three runs as Louisville swept its series with
Kentucky in front of a season-high crowd of 3,862 at Patterson
Stadium. The Cardinals (29-12) won 12-0 over the Wildcats (35-7)
earlier this season in Lexington. Louisville scored two in the
first and blew the game open with six in the third. Jeff Gardner
doubled and drove in two, while Alex Chittenden added two RBI
for the Cardinals. Chad Green (3-0, 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K)
picked up the win. Thomas McCarthy went 1 for 3 with one RBI for
UK.
USF 5, No. 4 Florida 3
In Gainesville, Fla., Andrew Longley homered
twice and knocked in three as USF edged Florida in front of
2,897 fans at McKethan Stadium. After the Bulls (28-14) scored a
pair in the second, Longley went deep in the sixth to give the
visitors a 3-0 lead. Nolan Fontana (2 for 5) homered and Mike
Zunino (2 for 5) added a two-run shot as the Gators (31-10) tied
it in the bottom of the sixth. Jimmy Falla (2 for 5) had a RBI
single in the seventh as USF reclaimed the lead and Longley
added a dinger in the eighth to complete the scoring. Andrew
Barbosa (5-3) got the final out in the sixth and registered the
win. Steven Leasure recorded the final two outs for his sixth
save. Daniel Pigott went 3 for 4 with two doubles for the
Gators, who stranded 10.
No. 9 Stanford 10, BYU 9
In Stanford, Calif., Austin Wilson went 3 for 3
with a homer and a career-high five RBI as Stanford held on to
edge BYU in front of 1,204 fans at Sunken Diamond. Wilson and
Brett Michael Doran (2 for 3, 3 RBI) had two-run singles in a
five-run second for the Cardinal (26-10). Wilson homered in a
two-run fourth and delivered another two-run base hit in the
fifth as Stanford built a 9-0 lead. The Cougars (17-15) used a
seven-run eighth to pull to within one. Garrett Hughes (2-1, 3
IP, 1 H, 3 K) got the win, while Stephen Piscotty (1.2 IP, 4 H,
2 R, 2 K) notched his first save. Jaycob Brugman and Stephen
Wells both had two hits and two RBI for BYU.
No. 10 Texas A&M 4, TCU 1
In Fort Worth, Texas, Texas A&M tallied a pair in
each of the final two innings to get past TCU in front of 5,412
fans at Lupton Stadium. Jantzen Witte (2 for 3) homered in the
fifth to put the Horned Frogs (23-15) on the board. Chance
Bolcerek had a RBI triple and scored in the eighth as the Aggies
(29-12) took the lead. Matt Juengel had two hits and two RBI,
while Scott Arthur went 2 for 4 with two runs for Texas A&M.
Kyle Martin (5-3, 2.1 IP, 1 H, 5 K) earned the victory.
No. 11 UCLA 9, UC Irvine 3
In Los Angeles, Beau Amaral went 2 for 5 with a
triple and two RBI as UCLA downed UC Irvine at Jackie Robinson
Stadium. The Bruins (27-10) erased a 3-2 deficit with four in
the fifth and tacked on three in the seventh. Jeff Gelalich went
3 for 5 with one run and one RBI, while Cody Keefer added two
hits and two runs for UCLA. Chase Brewer (2-0) allowed one hit
in a scoreless fifth to pick up the victory. Connor Spencer
drove in a pair for the Anteaters (20-17).
Oregon State 7, No. 12 Oregon 1
In Eugene, Ore., Taylor Starr worked seven solid
innings as Oregon State downed Oregon in front of 2,091
spectators at PK Park. Starr (4-1) allowed five hits and one run
with one walk and seven strikeouts. The Beavers (27-12) scored
two in the second and four in the third to take control. Joey
Matthews went 2 for 4 with two doubles, one run and one RBI for
OSU. Andrew Mendenhall had two hits for the Ducks (27-13).
Loyola Marymount 6, No. 14 Cal State Fullerton
5
In Los Angeles, Shon Roe went 4 for 4 with a
homer and three runs as Loyola Marymount edged Cal State
Fullerton. Roe’s dinger in the bottom of the eighth snapped a
5-5 tie. Bret Dahlson pitched a scoreless ninth with one
strikeout for his eighth save, securing the win for Ryan
Hawthorne (3-0, 1 IP, 1 BB, 2 K). Cullen Mahoney went 3 for 4
with two runs, while Zac Fujimoto (2 for 3, 2B) and Alex Guthrie
(1 for 3) both drove in two for the Lions (19-17). Richy Pedroza
went 3 for 5 with a double, one run and one RBI for the Titans
(26-14).
UNC Greensboro 8, No. 15
North Carolina 4
In Chapel Hill, N.C., Trevor Edwards went 5 for 6
with two doubles, a homer, two runs and three RBI to lead UNC
Greensboro past North Carolina at Boshamer Stadium. The Tar
Heels (29-13) scored all their runs in the bottom of the first
to take a 4-1 advantage. The Spartans (21-18) tied it with three
in the second and added single runs in the fifth, sixth, eighth
and ninth. Bobby Martin went 3 for 5 with two runs, While Lloyd
Enzor added two hits and two RBI for UNCG. Tyler Hollstegge
(4-4, 5.1 IP, 1 H, 4 K) won the game in relief. Tom Zengel had a
double and one RBI for UNC.
