Diekroeger drives in game-winner in 12th for Stanford

Michigan State stops OSU, UConn downs UMass, Cornell tops Dartmouth

 

In Stanford, Calif., Danny Diekroeger drove in the game-winner with a base hit in the bottom of the 12th as eighth-ranked Stanford edged Saint Mary’s 9-8 Monday. Stephen Piscotty (1-0, 3.2 IP, 2 H, 3 K) got the win in relief after pitching twice in the contest. Piscotty (3 for 6) started the game at third and took the mound in the eighth, recording the final two outs. He returned to third in the ninth before hurling the final three innings. The Cardinal (17-6) scored five in the bottom of the ninth to force the extra frames, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Brian Ragira (3 for 5, 2 R) and a two-run single by Austin Wilson (2 for 6). Alex Blandino went 2 for 6 with a homer, two runs and two RBI for Stanford. Collin Ferguson went 5 for 7 with two doubles, one run and one RBI, while Cole Norton (2 for 6, 1 R) and Troy Channing (2 for 5, HR) both drove in two for the Gaels (14-13).

 

Michigan State 10, Ohio State 5

In East Lansing, Mich., Jordan Keur had a two-run double to cap an eight-run first as Michigan State won its Big Ten series with Ohio State. The Buckeyes (2-4, 14-12) scored three in the top of the first before the explosion in the bottom of the frame by the Spartans (2-1, 17-8). Tony Wieber (2 for 5, 3 RBI) and Ryan Jones (2 for 5, 2 R, 3 RBI) both had two-run singles in the first for MSU. Jeff Kinley (4-2, 4.1 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 6 K) picked up the win in relief. Patrick Porter had two hits and two RBI for OSU.

 

Connecticut 12, Massachusetts 5

In Amherst, Mass., Connecticut used a nine-run seventh to rally past Massachusetts. LJ Mazzilli (2 for 4, 2 R, 3 RBI), Tom Verdi (2 for 4, 2 R) and Alex DeBellis (2 for 3) each had two-run singles in the seventh for the Huskies (15-12), who trailed 3-2 after six. Ryan Fuller went 3 for 5 with two doubles and three runs for UConn. Jared Dettman (2-0, 6 IP, 4 H, 3 UE, 3 BB, 3 K) picked up the victory. Adam Picard had two hits and two RBI, while Rob McLam went 3 for 4 with two runs for the Minutemen (6-10).

 

Cornell 5, Dartmouth 2

In Ithaca, N.Y., Brandon Lee went 3 for 4 with two doubles as Cornell completed a two-game Ivy League sweep of Dartmouth. Ennis Coble and Matt Robinson both drove in runs for the Big Green (1-3, 4-13) in the top of the third before the Big Red (3-1, 16-5-1) scored in each of its final four at-bats to earn the victory. Frank Hager homered for the victors. Rick Marks (3-1, 7.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 3 K) earned the win, while Kellen Urbon (1.2, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K) notched his fourth save.

 

Manhattan 8, Iona 6

In Riverdale, N.Y., Scott McClennan allowed two earned runs in eight innings as Manhattan completed a MAAC sweep of Iona. McClennan (1-3) scattered 10 hits with one walk and one strikeout. Jacob Marchus struck out the final batter of the game to record his third save. The Jaspers (4-2, 8-17) scored three in the third and fourth and two in the fifth to take an 8-1 lead. Yoandry Galan (2 for 3, 2B, 2 R) and Ramon Ortega (2 for 4, 2B, 1 R) both drove in two for Manhattan. Chris Burke went 4 for 4 with two homers and four RBI for the Gaels (2-4, 9-18).

 

Pacific 6, Nevada 5

In Stockton, Calif., Jason Taasaas had a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth to lift Pacific past Nevada. Taasaas finished with three hits, as did Dustin Torchio (3 for 3, 2B) and Erik Lockwood (3 for 5, 1 R, 3 RBI) for the Tigers (9-19). John Prato Matthews (2-4, 3 IP, 2 H, 3 K) earned the victory. Austin Byler went 2 for 2 with one run and one RBI as the Wolf Pack (15-12) scored all its runs in the top of the fourth.

 

Siena 2, Binghamton 1

In Loudonville, N.Y., Tyler Bell had a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth as Siena nipped Binghamton to win its first series of the season. John Howell (2 for 4, 2B) had a RBI single in the top of the seventh to give the Bearcats (8-11) a short-lived lead. Ryan Metzler tied it with a base hit in the bottom of the frame for the Saints (5-20). Ed Lewicki (1-0, 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 3 K) recorded the win.

 

Niagara 3, Marist 2 (15)

In Batavia, N.Y., Thomas Rodriques had a RBI single in the bottom of the 15th as Niagara nipped Marist in MAAC play. The second game of the doubleheader was canceled. Joel Klock, Eric Hink and Ryan McCauley each had two hits and a run for the Purple Eagles (3-2, 10-13). Cody Lillich (1-0, 0.2 IP, 1 K) picked up the win. Eric Helmrich went 3 for 7 with a double, one run and one RBI, while Jake Berry was 3 for 7 with a double and a run for the Red Foxes (2-3, 7-14).

 

Brown 12-5, Penn 2-7

In Philadelphia, Brown used a 10-run fourth to take the opener in an Ivy League doubleheader split at Penn. Graham Tyler doubled and drove in three, while Mike DiBiase went 2 for 4 with a homer, two runs and two RBI for the Bears (2-2, 4-16). Heath Mayo (2-0, 7 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 6 K) went the distance to earn the win. James Mraz went 2 for 4 with a double, one run and one RBI for the Quakers (3-1, 11-10). In the nightcap, Brandon Englehardt (2 for 4, 2 RBI) had a RBI single to snap a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the eighth for Penn. Ryan Deitrich went 3 for 3 with a homer for the Quakers. John Beasley (1-1, 1 IP, 1 H) registered the victory, while Dan Gautieri fanned two in the ninth for his first save. Tyler drove in three for Brown.
