Lipson leads UC Davis past Hawaii

BYU edges Nevada, Utah Valley uses six homers to power past SUU

 

In Honolulu, Tino Lipson had three hits and two runs as UC Davis defeated Hawaii 5-3 Thursday in front of 2,503 fans at Les Murakami Stadium. Paul Politi (2 for 4) had a RBI single to spark a three-run rally in the top of the first for the Aggies (11-10). Dayne Quist (4-0, 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 9 K) earned the victory, while Harry Stanwyck fanned three over the final 1.1 innings picked up his second save. Trevor Podratz had a two-run homer in the fourth for the Rainbows (14-12).

 

BYU 4, Nevada 3

In Reno, Nev., Chris Capper allowed two run over six innings as BYU edged Nevada to register its first win in 31 years in Reno. Capper (1-4) gave up seven hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Mason Marshall (1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB) recorded the save. The Cougars (11-9) scored two in the seventh to snap a 2-2 deadlock. Wes Guenther went 2 for 5 with a triple and two RBI for BYU. Carlos Escobar had a two-run homer in the second for the Wolf Pack (13-11).

 

Utah Valley 17, Southern Utah 7

In Orem, Utah, Utah Valley tied a program record as six players homered to start the series with Southern Utah. Alex Exon (2 for 5) had a three-run homer in the fifth to break a 7-7 tie for the Wolverines (10-11). Goose Kallunki (2 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI), Cole Butcher (1 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Jake Rickenbach (3 for 5, 3 R, 2 RBI) all went deep in a five-run second for UVU. Jordy Hart (2 for 5, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Sean Moysh (2 for 5, 2 R, 3 RBI) also had dingers for the Wolverines. Taylor Mangum (1-0, 3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 4 K) picked up the win. David Ricker had two homers and drove in four for the Thunderbirds (6-18).
