Kalenkosky, Orton homer
as Texas State tops Oregon
Fullerton downs Arizona State, Stanford
stops Saint Mary's, UNC wins in 10
In
San Marcos, Texas, Casey Kalenkosky (right) and Brooks Orton
both had two-run homers as Texas State defeated Oregon 7-6
Wednesday for a two-game series sweep. Kalenkosky went deep in
the first, his second in two days, and Orton homered in the
second for the Bobcats (16-9). Kalenkosky added a sacrifice fly
in the third as Texas State built a 5-2 lead. Andrew Stumph also
drove in two, while Nick Smelser went 2 for 3 with three runs
for the Bobcats. Thomas Walker (2 for 4, 3 R) had a home run for
the Ducks (15-8).
No. 13 Cal State Fullerton 9, Arizona State 5
In Tempe, Ariz., Austin Kingsolver had a RBI
single to spark a three-run fourth and give Cal State Fullerton
the lead for good at Arizona State. Kingsolver had three hits
for the Titans (15-9), as did Ricky Pedroza. Fullerton had 18
hits, all singles. Tyler Peitzmeier (1-0, 3.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R)
earned the win, while Michael Lorenzen (1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB,
1 K) notched his ninth save. Abe Ruiz had two doubles, one run
and one RBI for the Sun Devils (16-9).
No. 2 Stanford 10, Saint Mary’s 4
In Stanford, Calif., Alex Blandino had a
three-run homer in a five-run fourth as Stanford stymied Saint
Mary’s. The Cardinal (16-3) put up four in the second to take
control. Austin Wilson went 3 for 5 with a double, two runs and
two RBI, while Kenny Diekroeger went 2 for 4 with a double and
three runs for Stanford. Dean McArdle (2-0, 2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 K)
picked up the victory. Collin Ferguson had three hits and one
RBI, while Donald Collins drove in a pair for the Gaels (14-9).
No. 5 North Carolina 7, Coastal Carolina 6

In Chapel Hill, N.C., Cody Stubbs tied it with a
two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth and Grayson Atwood
drove in the game-winner in the bottom of the 10th as North
Carolina nipped Coastal Carolina. Jacob Stallings (2 for 4, 2 R)
had a one-out single in the ninth for the Tar Heels (20-5) and
moved to second on a balk. After a flyout, Stubbs (2 for 3, 2 R,
3 RBI) went deep to right to force an extra frame. Brian
Holberton delivered a one-out double in the 10th for UNC and
came in on a base hit by Atwood. Michael Morin (3-0, 1 IP, 1 H,
3 K) earned the victory. Justin Creel had two hits and two runs
for the Chanticleers (16-7).
No. 8 Miami (Fla.) 11, St. Thomas 4
In Coral Gables, Fla., Peter O’Brien homered for
the ninth time as Miami outscored St. Thomas. O’Brien (2 for 3,
3 R, 3 RBI) had a two-run shot in a four-run third as the
Hurricanes (20-5) built a 6-1 lead. Stephen Perez went 3 for 4
with two runs, while Scott Wiebel added a pinch-hit two-run
homer for Miami. Javi Salas (3-0, 4 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 3 K) picked
up the win. Elio Rey drove in a pair for the Bobcats (27-7).
No. 14 LSU 5, Louisiana-Lafayette 0
In Baton Rouge, La., Grant Dozar had a three-run
homer to lead LSU past Louisiana-Lafayette. Mason Katz (1 for 3,
2 BB, 2 R) had a solo homer in a two-run first before Dozar’s
blast in the third completed the scoring. Raph Rhymes went 3 for
5 with two runs for the Tigers (19-6). Joe Broussard (3-0, 2 IP,
1 BB, 3 K) picked up the win as 10 hurlers combined on the
shutout, the seventh for LSU. Tyler Frederick, Jace Conrad and
Jordan Bourque each had a hit for the Ragin’ Cajuns (13-11).
No. 17 NC State 4, East Carolina 3 (11)
In Raleigh, N.C., Tarran Senay drove in the
game-winner with two away in the bottom of the 11th as NC State
edged East Carolina. Brett Austin had a leadoff walk in the 11th
for the Wolfpack (17-6) and was sacrificed to second. After an
intentional walk and a flyout, a single by Senay (3 for 5, 2
RBI) plated Austin to end the contest. Ryan Wilkins (2-1, 1.1
IP, 2 K) got the win. John Wooten had two doubles, one run and
one RBI for the Pirates (16-8).
