Roth, Price pitch South
Carolina past Florida
Fullerton downs ORU, Iona outscores NYIT,
UC Irvine nips Dartmouth
In
Columbia, S.C., Michael Roth (right) allowed one earned run over
6.2 innings as No. 6 South Carolina defeated top-ranked Florida
Thursday in front of 8,242 fans at Carolina Stadium in the SEC
series opener. Roth allowed four hits and two runs with three
walks and five strikeouts. Matt Price (3-1) made his first
relief appearance of the season and allowed one unearned run
over 2.1 hitless innings with three walks and three strikeouts
to earn the victory. The Gamecocks (1-3, 17-5) snapped a 2-2 tie
with four in the seventh and added to their lead with three in
the eighth. Evan Marzilli and Adam Matthews both had three hits
and two RBI for South Carolina, with Matthews adding a home run.
Daniel Pigott had two hits and a run for the Gators (3-1, 20-2).
Hudson Randall (7 H, 2 R, 1 BB) struck out 11 in 5.2 innings for
UF.
No. 14 Cal State Fullerton 7, Oral Roberts 1
In Fullerton, Calif., Dylan Floro allowed one run
over eight innings as Cal State Fullerton downed Oral Roberts in
the opener of their weekend series. Floro (3-2) scattered eight
hits, did not walk a batter and struck out six. The Titans
(13-7) expanded a 3-1 lead with four in the seventh. Carlos
Lopez went 3 for 5 with two runs, while Derek Legg drove in a
pair for Fullerton. Cam Schiller went 3 for 4 with a double and
one RBI for the Golden Eagles (9-11).
Iona 16, NYIT 14
In Old Westbury, N.Y., Mike Chiaravalloti had a
RBI double in the top of the ninth to snap a 14-14 tie as Iona
outscored NYIT. Chiaravalloti finished with three hits, two
doubles, one homer, three runs and three RBI, while James Beck
went 3 for 5 with one run and four RBI for the Gaels (7-12).
Kenny Dietrich (1-0, 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K) earned the
victory, while Conan Lion worked around two hits and one walk in
a scoreless ninth for his first save. Sebastian Grazziani went 2
for 6 with six RBI for the Bears (2-12).
UC Irvine 5, Dartmouth 4
In Irvine, Calif., UC Irvine scored twice in the
bottom of the ninth to rally past Dartmouth. Tommy Reyes (1 for
3, 2 RBI) had a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 4 and Fox (2
for 5) singled to plate the game-winner. D.J. Crumlich went 4
for 4 with two runs for the Anteaters (12-8). He was a home run
short of the cycle. Jimmy Litchfield (1-1, 3.2 IP, 2 H, 3 K)
earned the victory. Nick Lombardi had a three-run double to cap
a four-run fifth for the Big Green (2-8). Dustin Selzer (1 R, 1
RBI) and Jake Carlson both had three hits, including one double,
for Dartmouth.
Cornell 5, Longwood 1
In Farmville, Va., Marshall Yanzick went 4 for 5
with three RBI as Cornell downed Longwood. Brenton Peters went 3
for 4 with one run for the Big Red (10-4). Connor Kaufmann (3-1,
5.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K) earned the victory. Robby Newman
went 1 for 4 with a double and one RBI for the Lancers (11-10).
Brown 22, Maine 4
In Providence, R.I., Cody Slaughter and Wes Van
Boom both had three hits, including a homer, and five RBI as
Brown drubbed Maine. Slaughter had a three-run homer and Van
Boom belted a grand slam for the Bears (1-7). Will Marcal (3 for
5, 3 R) and Nick Fornaca (3 for 4, 1 R) both knocked in four for
Brown. Alex Calbick doubled and scored for the Black Bears
(6-12).
