Dominion senior shortstop Josh Wright (left) was named preseason
Player of the Year in the Colonial Athletic Association in
voting by the league’s head coach and as released by the
conference office.
Wright was a First Team All-CAA selection in
2011, hitting .369 with 12 homers, 44 RBI and 18 steals. He led
the Monarchs and was fifth in the conference with 53 runs.
Georgia State, James Madison, UNC Wilmington and
Old Dominion each had two players on the preseason All-CAA
squad.
The 2012 campaign begins on Friday, Feb. 17, with
10 of the 11 teams in action. Conference play starts on March 9.
The 2012 CAA Championship will be held May 23-26 at JMU’s Eagle
Field at Veterans Memorial Park in Harrisonburg, Va.
