Price (right) earned a three-inning save as two-time defending
national champion South Carolina defeated Oklahoma to win the
Columbia Super Regional. The Gamecocks (45-17) recorded their
21st straight NCAA Tournament victory and advance to the College
World Series for the third straight year. No. 8 South Carolina
will face top-seeded Florida on Saturday, June 16, at 8 p.m. CT
in the first round of the CWS at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha,
Neb. Price allowed two hits and one walk while striking out four
to record his 11th save. The game began on Sunday, with neither
team scoring through the first five-and-a-half innings before
rain suspended play. The Gamecocks lit the scoreboard first in
the top of the seventh. Connor Bright had a leadoff double and
pinch-runner T.J. Costen came home on an errant throw on a
sacrifice bunt by Tanner English (2 for 3, 2 R). With two away,
English came in on a wild pitch to give South Carolina a 2-0
advantage. Evan Mistich had a RBI single in the bottom of the
frame as the Sooners (44-18) cut the deficit in half. The
Gamecocks added to their lead in the eighth as English had a RBI
bunt single and Chase Vergason added a two-run double as South
Carolina pushed the advantage to 5-1. OU got a base-runner in
each of the final two innings, but no additional runs.
Waco Super Regional
Arkansas 1, #4 Baylor 0 (10) (Arkansas wins
series 2-1)
Arkansas advances to College World Series
Jake Wise had a run-scoring single with two away
in the top of the 10th as Arkansas edged Baylor to claim the
final spot in the College World Series. The Razorbacks (44-20)
will face Kent State on Saturday, June 16, at 4 p.m. CT at TD
Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb. Brian Anderson led off the 10th
with a base hit for Arkansas and was sacrificed to second.
Following a strikeout, Wise singled to left to plate Anderson.
The Bears (49-17) attempt a two-out rally in the bottom of the
frame. After a pair of flyouts, Josh Ludy was walked for the
fourth time in the contest. Max Muncy (2 for 5) singled to left
to put the winning run on base, but Dan Evatt struck out to end
the contest. Colby Suggs (7-0), the fifth pitcher for the
Razorbacks, got the win, allowing one hit and two walks in the
final two innings with a pair of strikeouts. Baylor stranded 11,
including the bases loaded in both the fourth and fifth.
