MLB Draft takes 566 players from 198 Division I schools

Junior catcher Mike Zunino (right) of Florida was the third-overall pick of the 2012 MLB Draft. Five of the first nine selections were Division I players. There were 25 total Division I players taken in the first round. Florida, Stanford and Texas A&M each had two players selected, with the Aggies having both taken in the first 20 picks.

 

There were a total of 566 player drafted from 198 Division I programs. Arizona State led the way with 10, while Florida, Kentucky and Texas Tech had nine each. Arkansas, Rice and Texas A&M had eight players drafted.

 

Schools with seven include California, Clemson, Purdue, Samford, Stanford, Stetson, Stony Brook and UCLA.

 

Those with six include Baylor, Dallas Baptist, East Carolina, Florida State, Fresno State, Kent State, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, TCU, UCF, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.

 

Schools with five include Arizona, Central Michigan, Georgia Tech, LSU, Miami (Fla.), Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, St. John's, Texas State, UC Santa Barbara and Washington State.
