Hosftra, VCU incur suspensions
CAA
commissioner Tom Yeager has suspended seven players and the two
head coaches from a bench-clearing brawl in Sunday’s contest
between Hofstra and visiting VCU.
VCU head coach Paul Keyes was ejected for arguing
with an umpire in the bottom of the seventh and is suspended for
one game (March 21 at Richmond) per conference rules.
Hofstra head coach John Russo was ejected in the
top of the ninth per NCAA rules after a Pride pitcher threw at a
batter after being warned. Russo will be suspended one game
(March 21 at Manhattan) per NCAA rules.
Four VCU players received suspensions. Blake
Hauser and Kyle Pelchy both were suspended for four games (three
games for fighting and one for post-participation ejection).
Brent Mikionis received a three-game suspension for fighting.
Ryan Farrar was given a one-game suspension per CAA rules for
damaging field markings during Saturday’s contest. The
suspensions cover the game at Richmond on March 21 and the
weekend series with UNC Wilmington from March 23-25.
Three Hofstra players were given suspensions.
Bryan Verbitsky was suspended four games for throwing at a
batter after a warning. Matt Reistetter and Matt Ford received
three-game suspensions for fighting. The suspensions cover the
game at Manhattan on March 21 and the weekend series at Old
Dominion from March 23-25.
