2011 World Cup/Pan Am Team
roster announced
USA
baseball has released the roster for the 2011 World Cup/Pan Am
Team. The squad will participate in both the IBAF Baseball World
Cup in Panama City, Panama, Oct. 2-15, and the Pan American
Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, Oct. 20-25. The team includes 24
players not currently on Major League 40-man rosters.
There are 17 former Division I players among the
24. Fresno State is the only school with multiple alums with
Chuckie Fick and Tommy Mendonca (pictured).
Four players were members of USA Baseball
Collegiate teams: Jordan Danks in 2007, Mendonca in 2008, Jordy
Mercer in 2007 and Joe Savery in 2005.
Justin Cassel (left) and Team USA will meet in Cary, N.C., at the USA
Baseball National Training Complex to train from Sept. 27-29,
with three exhibitions against the Canadian World Cup/Pan Am
Team. The U.S. will look for its third straight IBAF Baseball
World Cup title. Team USA topped Cuba in the gold medal game in
each of the past two finals.
The U.S. is seeking its first gold medal in the
Pan American Games since 1967 in Winnipeg. Cuba has won 12 of
the 15 Pan Am baseball competitions, including the past 10.
